i guess i'm just negative, but if the knock on jake was 'conditioning' and there was this guy from the same country (even town?) who was likely voracek's idol growing up, that was still playing (at a high level) at age 40 because he was a conditioning fiend, wouldn't it be the logical thing to do to keep that player around to help mentor jv as a protege (not to mention, bring his influence and leadership to the other young players)? i honestly still don't get why they let jagr go. |

From 73 to his neck injury in the fall of 75, Parent played as well as any goalie ever.
73-74 1.89gaa, 12 shutouts, 47 wins: Vezina, Smythe 1st team all star
74-75 2.03gaa 12 shutouts 44 wins: Vezina, Smythe, 1st team all star
He was that damn good! - BiggE

Are we really here again? Do we need to revist how the summer of Weber/JvR/Carle/Suter/Parise/Jagr went? |

If Voracek needed Jagr to keep him in line then that says to me that Voracek is not going to succeed in the NHL. I always thought letting Jagr go was blown out of proportion. Like Giroux was never going to have success without Jagr either. Some fans were acting like Jagr was holding everything together and without him everything is doomed. |

He was a very nice fit, and I wish they'd kept him. But the ultimate success and development of our team is likely not tied to him. |

Agreed.
It's really short-changing Giroux and Voracek too. |

When they had that 4 team sale at the WFC this summer, I got my wife a really nice Talbot shirt for $1. |

YOU SHUT UP! YOU JUST SHUT UP YOUR STINKING POOPY MOUTH WITH YOUR BAD NEGATIVE FEELINGS!
I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me. Losing Jagr because of that 0% chance of succeeding attempt to get Suter and Parise when everyone knew they were going to Minny Soda still brings back hurt feelings. I apologize.

He set up some really good scoring chances. The goals he was on the ice for weren't his outright fault but he could have done more to prevent them. WHL really carried the play. Russian goalie was outstanding whoever it was. |

It wasn't even just pursuing those guys that lost us Jagr. I think it was clear they wanted to get that keep top six spots open for young guys like Voracek, Simmonds, and Schenn to have instrumental roles on the team. I was ok with the reasoning at the time.
In retrospect though, I wish we had kept him. Hell, if we have to have a veteran scorer I would take Jagr nine days a day over Lecavalier. |

The late Richard Kiel. I can't believe he was typecast. He played the same type of character all the time. |
