Agreed. I like Hansen...just not on the top 6. Untimely penalties be damned, Jensen should be up with the Sedins with Hansen giving some bite to the Horvat line.

Jensen is not ready . They need to look outside the current organization for that top 6 player

Either that or just wait it out. When Vrbata comes back we should continue to have two effective top 6 lines and two effective bottom six lines when we get Kassian and Dorsett back

Didn't say he was the permanent solution. I'm saying that if Hansen is on the top line as an injury replacement, that role should have been handed to Jensen instead until Vrbata returns.

Have you read the euphoria on this board today? I think you're late to the party.

I don't think Hansen is enough for WD to trust Horvat.

I know you were looking short term, I was saying out loud we need to stop putting band aids on problems.

How many of us said last summer Higgins HANSEN and Burrows are not top 6 players and look what we have.

I know Virtanen might fill a spot next year but we could still use at least one more top 6

Probably not but it wouldn't hurt to try plus it would be a better use of Jensen's time. I doubt that line would be given less than the 5+ mins they were given last night...against Ottawa.

I'm confused by your name. Aren't you a Blackhawk fan?

Last night was actually the game I was looking forward to most of any in the regular season, because the Canucks and Senators are my two favorite teams.

People have made up all kinds of nonsense about my motivations, intentions, feelings, etc... there's not a lot you can do about that when some people apparently have time to post 100 times a day, but I'm not nearly the jerk I've been made out to be.

Well the 2nd line is rolling at 5v5, I do think they'll eventually cool down but Bonino is making Higgins and Burrows better players. I like what that line does at even strength. Burrows and Higgins are still good on the forecheck and along the boards and when they get the puck they usually try to get it to Bonino so he can make something happen.

The Sedins need Vrbata back to finish plays for them, Hansen had multiple chances in the LA/ANA/OTT games but couldn't finish. It made the Sedins look worse as well.

Bonino is making Higgins and Burrows look like top 6 players, something Kesler never could do.

I have to say this team has exceeded any expectations I had for them in the first quarter of the season. I'm still a bit worried about the resiliency of some of the older players over the long-haul, but overall I'm really impressed with how they've come together so quickly.

Rolling 4 lines will help the mid season burnout and injuries they experience last year. But to do that we need to continue to roll 4 lines.

Hypothetically speaking, if you were the canuck’s GM at this very moment and you had cap issues, would you trade Burrows (with his $4.5m cap hit over the next 3 seasons including this one) or Hansen (and his $2.5m cap hit over the next 4 seasons)?

This question is open to all.

As a side note, I didn’t realise that Burrows got paid $8m last season and will make $6.5m this season.

Front-loaded so that down the road he could potentially be moved to a cap floor type of team.

What kind of return would you get for either of them in this hypothetical?

Agreed with all of this. Just seems to be excruciatingly difficult for teams to make deals these days, unless they're run by Jim Nill.

Yeah that makes Burrows easier to trade in the last 2 years of his contract to a floor team.

Too bad he didn't do the same with his defense.

I agree, ideally those two are third liners on a legit team. Burrows is too expensive to be a third liner though so moving him would free p space and open some possibilities for a UFA next year. I would not move Horvat/Virtanen/2015-1st or one of our top 4 defensemen right now. So unless some sort of combination of our other prospects and spare parts can land us a top 6 forward(non rental or old guy) there's not much JB can do.

Burrows and Higgins are definitely not ideal top 6 players but we can hope Kassian starts producing like one (though his window seems to be dwindling). The question is are we better off using bandaid solutions until we develop some higher end players or take value from another area to improve what seems to be working for now? We are weak on D for the moment and finally are improving our prospect pool, so can we afford the huge cost it would take for a top 6 forward?

I don't mind Hansen with the Sedins considering what the options are. He may pass up hits playing with them but he still pursues the puck and is good at the cycle with them. The Sedin line looked dangerous all night and Hansen was part of that. Would be great to see him bury some chances but honestly its not his job when playing on that line, as it is with Vrbata, Hansen's role is to get the puck and give it to the Sedins, be a pain around the net and help cover on defense.

All that said I move Hansen over Burrows, he likely will have more value (when compared to his cap hit) in the trade market. I also think we have players who can fill Hanen's role on the "4th" easier than we have a player to fill Burrows on the "2nd".

I would be really surprised if Virtanen is ready next year, he was one of the youngest in the draft and very few players are ready in the their draft + 1 season, let alone "power forward" types.

Next year is a long ways a way but I agree this team likely will need 2 top 6 forwards. There is a chance one of the prospects is ready but the most likely candidates are Vey and Kassian from within the system.
