Correct.
Because VDV is a fourth-line player who has skills to be a successful fourth-line player, whereas Akeson does not. He has greater skill fro a top 9 slot, but who are you going to replace on those first three lines that can be successful? - KGBflyers10
umberger. |

what i saw last year was a kid get a big chance and he responded very well, enough to give him a shot this year. i want the guy to get a legitimate (frank)ing chance to show what he can do and contribute, hopefully along with players who can help him do that. if the team really believes he's not in their plans, then move him. - hammarby31
Why move him? He can be a 13, 14 forward for cheap. The Flyers have to do what is best for them. Not Akeson. And really what would you get for Akeson in a trade. |

Scoring champ in the OHL, led his AHL team in points three seasons in a row, produced nicely in his first several games in the NHL when on a line with talented mates. - exlund
Yes, like Claude Giroux.
Tell me if you really want Akeson on a line with Claude Giroux all season long? |

I think it needs to be proven if he can hold his own. He hasn't done that. And Akeson isn't an equal to the other offensive types on the team. - MJL
Please elaborate...can you give examples that show he can't hold his own out there? |

i get the impression they are playing with different slates. unfairly or not, they are being paid a ton and will not be sat down. |

I mean Tebow was a great college player, had a good playoff win for the broncos but he just didn't have the best skill set to succeed in the NFL.
Akeson was a good junior player and average AHL player who had a good playoff series. But he just doesn't have the best skill set to be a player who can get away with down games. He needs to bring it every night - J35Bacher
Average AHL player? Do they often lead their team in scoring three years in a row? |

He is the most polarizing player on our team but if he wasn't on our team would we really be in any different of a position? |

They can. Those phantoms teams weren't loaded with talent in NY
Kris Newbury is leading the league this year. Harry Z is in the top ten in scoring. Maybe we should have just kept Newbury then. |

when i say move him i mean they could send him down too as an option and let him play so they can maybe get something for him down the line - albeit not very much.
it's in the flyers best interest to do what's best for akeson because if they do that, it will benefit themselves. they're the ones who picked him, have his rights. the onus is on the player, above anyone or anything else, but he can't be alone. it's called getting support to grow.
given his track record at all levels below the nhl, and the brief glimpse of good play in a playoff series last year - his first taste no less - i think it's an indication he has a good chance to produce at the nhl level. give the kid a (frank)ing chance.

Akeson was a top scorer in the AHL, so he's not an average AHL player. He's a pretty good AHL player. I'd settle for him becoming an average NHL player. |

So... proven enough to be kept around, but unproven enough to have to keep re-proving himself?

Well, it wouldn't be my preference, but if VDV can play with him, I'm not opposed to Akeson getting a shot.
They're buddies off the ice, so who knows, maybe they have chemistry we don't know about. I'd prefer to see Akeson play with Read and Coots or Schenn or Simmer, VLC might work...guys who can pot goals...G might be redundant, as I see Akeson sort of as a "mini-G"...maybe someone who can be like 50-60% of a Giroux. |

He owuld have to go through waivers. Also the Flyers want guys like Laughton, Cousins, Straka and all the prospects in the future plans to have that ice time. That is their best interest. |

no no. stop all this nonsense.
bam. hes worthless to you guys, as stated. here is a 5th round pick for him.
and then he is promptly getting a 20 game run with malkin and dupuis.

I did, more than once (c'mon you know this about me)...and I didn't/don't see a non-competitive player and didn't/don't see a player not holding his own. I did see other players making mistakes and playing arguably worse than him, yet Akeson was the one being punished. |

Akeson
Umberger
VLC
B Schenn
L Schenn

I think it's incorrect to state that he hasn't been given a chance. He's still with the team because they aren't ready to move on from Akeson. Which I agree with. He would have to clear waivers to be sent down. |
