bam. hes worthless to you guys, as stated. here is a 5th round pick for him.
and then he is promptly getting a 20 game run with malkin and dupuis. - stayinthefnnet

I did, more than once (c'mon you know this about me)...and I didn't/don't see a non-competitive player and didn't/don't see a player not holding his own. I did see other players making mistakes and playing arguably worse than him, yet Akeson was the one being punished. - exlund
Do you think the Coach scratched him because he was playing well, and was holding his own? He was scratched for a reason. And he's not being punished. He's been made to earn his playing time. Like any other player in his spot. |

Pretty much. Rinaldo can do all kinds of stupid things and never come out of lineup. Plus they keep dressing Umberger and I'm pretty sure he died last winter. |

They can. Those phantoms teams weren't loaded with talent in NY
Kris Newbury is leading the league this year. Harry Z is in the top ten in scoring. Maybe we should have just kept Newbury then. - J35Bacher
Not taking about NHL, you said average AHL player. Newbury is well above average for an AHL player. |

He owuld have to go through waivers. Also the Flyers want guys like Laughton, Cousins, Straka and all the prospects in the future plans to have that ice time. That is their best interest. - J35Bacher
well apparently he's worthless at the nhl level so why would any team bother to take him? what's the fear there?
and since, according to you, there's too much valuable ahl ice that would then be wasted on akeson to be sent down if he passed through waivers, then they have no interest in letting him develop any further there, since he's developed all he can.
so he's only worth a 13th or 14th forward at best in case of injury who won't get a chance to use his skillset because he'd then get plugged onto a 4th line with grinders for 5 minutes and be of no real value other than to give the top line a break for 5 minutes....so.....
he's really worth virtually nothing other than what little they might get in a trade now, so just move him.
see how this goes round and round?
give the kid a chance to succeed in a way he's best suited to contribute.

Rinaldo comes to play every game, and every shift. And his compete level is off the charts. The coach is obviously willing to put up with some growing pains because of that. |

Rinaldo is a proven veteran. And he's earned his contract extension, and ice time!

Well, this is the crux of the argument. I and others disagree with Berube's take based on what we see from the player versus the actions and statements of a coach who is under immense pressure to win now versus develop undersized rookie-type players. |

haha touche.
it didnt.
but you know what? as much as id like them to nut up and move a D prospect for a winger help, i dont think that deals really out there right now.
so id rather they continually take these shots in the dark than do nothing at all.
the boychuck experiment cost nothing. ive already seen more out of akeson than i have boychuk.
for the cost of a 5th round pick, to try ii out, id be more than willing. put him there. dont yank him after the first 2 games. give him a good 20 game stretch to see what he has. if not, try him on the fourth line in the place of a guy like sill. if that doesnt work, then what did you lose? not much. and then i would finally consider that stone turned |

Rinaldo and Umberger combined have one more goal than the combo of Mason and Emery this season. Just sayin.... |

when i say move him i mean they could send him down too as an option and let him play so they can maybe get something for him down the line - albeit not very much.
it's in the flyers best interest to do what's best for akeson because if they do that, it will benefit themselves. they're the ones who picked him, have his rights. the onus is on the player, above anyone or anything else, but he can't be alone. it's called getting support to grow.
given his track record at all levels below the nhl, and the brief glimpse of good play in a playoff series last year - his first taste no less - i think it's an indication he has a good chance to produce at the nhl level. give the kid a (frank)ing chance. - hammarby31

Correct.
Because VDV is a fourth-line player who has skills to be a successful fourth-line player, whereas Akeson does not. He has greater skill fro a top 9 slot, but who are you going to replace on those first three lines that can be successful? - KGBflyers10
You mean the VDV that's never played more than 18 games in an NHL season? |

Pretty much. Like I said a few weeks ago, if all you need to do is try really hard to skate on Berube's 4th line then sign me up. I promise to try my ass off!! |
