Brian Gibbons can fly and also plays a solid defensive game and kills penalites. I would trade akeson for gibbons. I think gibbons plays a little harder of a game then akeson - J35Bacher
yeah. gibbons and akeson are both your tweener types, but they play very different styles. |

to be fair i didnt want gibbons let go either. but i wanted him on a fourth line pk role.
i really just wish theyd make a move for a decent, somewhat established young guy.
i wanted kulemin, but not at that ridiculous rate the isles gave him. - stayinthefnnet
Edmonton might be a good trade partner. Perron wouldn't be a bad addition. |

I know what Coburn does for this team but with the way the defense has played could he become available for a more skilled winger?

Why do they have to give him a chance? I said he played two good games but he doesn't have this insane skill level that allows him to take games or shifts off. I don't think you understand where I am coming from. He can be useful if he plays a competitive game where he is making things happen or making smart plays. But if he doesn't then he will be out of lineup.
The Flyers want prospects to play so sending Akeson down to take minutes and situations away from those prospects just isn't in the Flyers best interest but they also don't want to risk losing a player they can use for nothing. - J35Bacher
i don't see him not competing. he hasn't been horrible or invisible or without effort, in my opinion. he's worked hard for this opportunity. let him play for more than 10 seconds before looking for something wrong that might not really even be there. otherwise, let's just skip the drawn out up and down bullpoop and get rid of him. that's all i'm saying. |

That's fine then. We both have our views on him. I just don't think he brings enough to the table that makes me think i need him in the lineup. He will get a chance to show what he can do Saturday. I hope he plays well and it provides someone to get Vinny the puck. That line needs to bring more to the game. |

Well, this is the crux of the argument. I and others disagree with Berube's take based on what we see from the player versus the actions and statements of a coach who is under immense pressure to win now versus develop undersized rookie-type players. - exlund
I would disagree that Berube is under immense pressure to win now. And how Berube has handled Akeson, is due to trying to develop the player. |

i think they are past the point where they are called growing pains my friend.
you admire his heart, and i respect that, but rinaldo isnt going to become more than he is. - stayinthefnnet
Not really. Rinaldo is probably always going to be a 4th line player. But there is room for growth still. He can become a better 4th line player, and a better PKer. |

perron brings some size and grit though. i would take him with malkin any day.

Akeson or Rinaldo?

No shock that Stern would have no idea who Bernie is/was. I mean, Howard doesn't really strike me as a sports guy. You would hope that the research people would do their jobs tho. Makes me cringe when I hear the sports people on comcast say names incorrectly. |
