My issue has never been with AMac himself. I just think you can find similar guys for less money.
In the case of the Flyers alone, Nick Schultz has given them the same kind of play MacDonald was, and I'd argue that Michael Del Zotto has been better than what MacDonald was giving them. |

I'm going to survive this season by imagining MDZ is the one making $5M and AMac's the guy making $1.3M. |

Nick Schultz has not been giving the same kind of play as MacDonald was, or is capable of. Schultz does not move the puck as well, nor is he as good offensively. And It's great how Del Zotto is playing. So does that mean that we don't need another good mobile two defenseman in the lineup? And MacDonald is well worth the money. And let's see what Del Zotto will cost the Flyers to retain. |

MDZ plays against far weaker competition than MacDonald. |

And imagining that MDZ is not getting the easiest minutes on the team alongside Luke Schenn. |

Actually MDZ has been playing top minutes for weeks now. He has performed GREAT! and we should absolutely extend him. |

He wasn't referring to minutes played, he was referring to who he was playing those minutes against. The Flyers have been using Del Zotto exactly how he should be used. And when MacDonald gets back, and works into game shape, the defense will be that much stronger. |

If MDZ is playing 24-25 minutes a night he is absolutely being played against top competition. Its inevitable. |

On some shifts, yes. But it's a total look at the overall competition. The biggest thing I see that is going to make the Flyers defense better. Is with the emergence of Del Zotto, the Flyers don't have to overplay MacDonald. And keep him closer to that 20 minute a game mark, which is where his icetime should be. We'll see what happens when he gets back. |
