My problem wasn't getting rid of him. It was buying him out and not trading him in fear of a doomsday scenario that probably wouldn't have come to fruition. I really don't want to rehash the argument again because it's done and over with, but the reality is that he didn't want to be here, and needed to be moved sooner or later. - buffalofan19
Question for you, if a person who has a no trade clause waives it and gets traded, does he still have a no trade clause with the new team? I always thought "why don't we trade him, and if is going to retire with the new team trade back for him and buy him out then. Then there would be no big penalty" |

Oh I'd absolutely want the sabres to make offers to both of them, i just don't know if saying "we've got Mceichel" is enough to lure free agents yet, maybe the year after. - Sabresfan-365
They're not. That's where you have to hope that the likes of Gionta, Gionta and Moulson up their production once these younger kids potentially hit their stride. |

Yeah..I didnt expect gionta or gorges to sign here but for whatever reason they did. Gionta signing here wasnt as big of a shocker given his roots here but still. Never know |

As far as the no-trade clause goes, it's retained by the acquiring team. As far as the retirement penalty goes, it's always retained by the original team that signed him. Thus, Buffalo and only Buffalo, is potentially on the hook for the recapture penalty, all because when the NHL drafted up the CBA, it didn't have the wherewithal to see that someone with a 3rd grade level understanding of math could easily get around the cap rules. |

They'll always be able to get "someone" to sign here. The question is whether they can get someone worth signing to come here. |

You can say what you want about him but I think that was a quality signing all things considered. |

I hope we do not get Leino 2.0. I don't think Murray is as short-sighted as Reiger though. Reiger needed to sign a "big name" since he lost out on Richards. |

Or trade for someone who can, i'd be a little nervous relying on those three |

That's an option too. However, even with McEichel, this team still has another two years of growing pains at least. |

A lot will depend on other moves and player growth but I think they could compete by 16-17 |

I'm saying that as a best case scenario. Even assuming they get the prize, they still have a couple of years of "suffering" to borrow Darcy Regier's term. |

Gotcha. I tend to agree but I also believe that with some careful trading and a couple signings, this thing could turn around a little faster. Easier said than done of coarse |

Columbus is missing a lot of their key players, they won't stay bottom three for much longer. |

For the other old timers out there, cool link about the sabres beating TO 14-4
Ah the good old days! Hopefully we can slowly build back to that level.
Love the last line in the video, Best line in the history of the NHL.

We will see. They might not recover from their injuries. Maybe they end up chalking it up as a lost season given the injuries and poor play and start selling off assets (foligno). Maybe they will be just as big of last place contender as the sabres. |

Gorges wasn't a signing though. He was a trade. Yes, he had some say in it since he had a limited NTC, but when all is said and done, it's a different animal. |
