I agree and disagree with the article in that, while Reimer would not make the Oilers a contender, he would instantly improve the team. Scrivens and Fasth are fine backup goalies, with Scrivens being the better of the two, but neither can maintain a consistently solid performance. Reimer is not an elite goalie, he is solid and reliable though, so long as the team has confidence in him. At this point, there is no cap room or roster spot for Toronto to take on a Petry or Perron. Also, there is no need for Toronto to trade Reimer right now. He's cheap, doing well and has settled into his role. Trading Fasth and a 2nd would not pry Reimer out of Toronto, because that doesn't help Toronto at all. You don't trade a player just because you can. The only way that Reimer is traded to Edmonton is if MacT moves Yakubov, that would get Toronto's attention. To mitigate the loss, Gardiner would have to go the other way for Fasth and a 2nd. I'm sure this proposal will be rejected by fans, even though it would instantly put the Oilers into playoff contention. It is however, the only way the Oilers get Reimer out of Toronto. - Falon
I don't think Reimer would singlehandedly put the Oilers much closer to playoff contention than they are now. And the fact of the matter is, if we're giving up Yakupov, Fasth and a 2nd for a goaltending fix and a young dman, I want to be IN the playoffs, not merely in (better) playoff contention. |

If they could just play more consistently. Scrivens goes on to be the 2nd star in the NHL one week and then he lets in 3 goals from the blue line next game. Fasth gets two decent wins in and then just poops the bed against Nashville.
Maybe it is the goalie coach who needs to be changed but most likely it is the goalies complete lack of confidence in our pylon defense. - Dangles13 I agree that they have good games and bad games. Back-ups can dial it and and play all world for a short period of time, but starters can play very good for 65 games. What does this mean? backups are in over their head, but are able to expend alot of physical and mental energy over a short period of time to bring themselves up to the level of an NHL starting goaltender, but its too hard on them to sustain it. A starter doesnt need to do this. They just are naturally able to play at that level consistently. |

I would love to get an elite starter that can play 65 games but there isn't any out there to be had. Fasth had sustained success playing the SEL and maybe he can have success playing here.
I feel until we can shore up our defense we will always have massive struggles with all other aspects of the game. |

If they wanted Fasth, a 2nd and a 3rd/prospect or something, I'd strongly consider it. |

and this really is the crux of it all.
im completely on board with getting more consistent tending which lends itself to so many advatanges.
but unless we're talking a surefire 1 star (and even then!!) we're going to struggle with this defence.
unless you're the canucks you don't just give away bonafide starters.
the bishops, varlamovs even lehtonens had question marks at the time of their trades. and they went for picks/prospects etc.
unless mact can lure a free agent (unlikely) its gotta be this kind of gamble.
but as been said; we're not going to start bucking the trend because we're the Edmonton oilers, and start paying way more than everyone else had to get that quality of tender. |

Well with all the busts we've drafted we really don't have any assets to trade away. Eberle is by farrrrrr our best player according to anybody who has ever watched the World Juniors and he is only worth most teams 3rd line players.

absolutely.
I can totally understand them saying a 2nd doesn't interest them in changing what's working. but this shouldn't also mean that because of this, an overpayment SHOULD interest us.
a quality prospect, fasth and a decent pick?? even that's a pretty steep price. but id consider it.
perron/ ebs/ yaks for reimer as the main piece coming back?

Hall's 80 points last year was a fluke.
And he is injury prone.
Trade him for Enroth. |

I haven't even heard enroth's name much. I assumed that when they dealt miller, it was because they believed in jonas |
