As is Petry. So, Petry, being cheaper than Franson, and playing the same, how does that make Petry so terrible? - ChetManly

I was saying for over a year that he'd be a guy I'd target. Most people think that he's slow and ungainly, but he skates very well, and was always top couple in the fastest skater drills for St Louis.
He's what we wanted from Gleason, without being absolutely glacial on skates - lumlums
The size and toughness of Polak is rather great to have as well! Has he mangled Lucic's face yet? |

Right now, I take Polak over him.
I've become a fan of that guy
Petry is very underrated however. Being in Edmonton I see a lot of him, and he's usually quite dependable - lumlums

No. To be honest, both games this year got so out of hand in terms of scoreline for each team, that there was no point. I'd love to see it though, Roman's one of the few guys with the size to give Lucic a run for his money. I don't think he's a great fighter though... |

so you would sell off a bright future for a couple first maybe second round exits? - Dozzer
how bright is the future going to be if they don't fix their problems in goal and on D?
they definitely have some good young d-men coming up, but they're all still very young, probalby 3-4 years away from being real impact players in the NHL.
they have no answers in goal (unless they have a prospect i'm not aware of).
if they continue the way they're going now, they'll continue to lose, and by the time some of their young D prospects are ready to make an impact, guys like eberle and hall will be 27-28 years old, and will have been playing in a toxic losing environment for a decade.
perhaps anderson and methot aren't the answer ( i was floating it for fun to start a conversation, don't think sens would move andy anyways), but at some point the oilers need to bring in some quality "veteran" players to help turn this thing around. |

oh yeah, that +/- stat has so much value. How much PP time does Franson receive? Petry has very little. Petry also started off with an injury and missed training camp.
I won't even bother with the East vs West argument.
I think it would be easiest if you just accepted that Petry is a very solid top-4 dman and is very capable of being a #2 if he was paired with a solid #1 dman. |

From a Leafs fan perspective, I don't want to see Reimer traded.
Now, Phaneuf is another story. You can have him for, uh, whatever spare parts you have hanging around.

Don't the scouting reports say that Petry is a smooth skating puck mover who needs to work on his defensive game and pick up the physical game?? |

Doesn't have to fight to get that guy off his game. I was laughing at the game on Wednesday night when I was at the gym. And then Boston does it all over again last night again Montreal.
I rarely cheer on Toronto, but will always cheer them on against Boston. I hate the Bruins. |

Lander's Potential?
Reimer isn't going to fix a thing in Edmonton, so that idea is stupid and it's already been beaten to death the past two years. |

I never comment on this site, but are you on crack? Reimer for Perron or Petry? Reimer would barely, if at all make the Oilers better. But trading Perron or Petry definitely makes the Oilers worse. If you want to acquire Reimer you start with Fasth and throw in a mid level prospect or a third round draft pick. Reimer is slightly better than Fasth... maybe. The Oilers need to fire there goalie coach. Name one goalie in the last 4-5 years that has improved with the Oilers? When Scrivens came to the Oilers he was playing really well and the more he worked with Chabot the worse he seems to play. What's with this new thing where he jumps out at the puck, as soon as he does it he's out of position. - Derek
I agree with your premise but if you are offering up Fasth as the centerpiece of a trade, what possible motivation does Toronto have to make that deal.
Right now, Bernier/Reimer is a workable 1/1A combination. The Leafs team as a whole is prone to epic collapses but I don't think our goaltending is the problem.

Robidas is your Ference. Veteran presence that can work in a solid 4/5/6 role. |

then you continue to build young
while i agree on needs.. you dont sell off future for aging vets.. thats how the leafs operated for years.. look where that got them

Well man, I mean he (frank)ing sniped it off the bar and in yesterday.
And I am pretty sure he is renowned for his two way game, and can throw a hit every so often.

Craig Anderson + Marc Methot + conditional 2nd rd pick (if methot doesn't re-sign)
for
Eberle
be gentle....i think it's a deal that works nicely for both teams
edmonton gets an obvious #1 goalie, and a guy who would almost surely be your #1 d-man
ottawa gets the top six winger they need.
thoughts? - sensarmy_11

Flames did the same thing. That style of management is long gone.
The problem is that the build is going well, but the results are not happening, which is causing the problems. There are still areas to address, but things take time. And no two clubs go the same route. |

a team can't continue to finish at or near the bottom of the league for 10+ years....and that's likely what would happen if they just wait for those young guys to develop and don't actively bring in quality guys to start fixing the problem now.
i think the difference is that edmonton has tons of "future", that they can afford to part with one.....if it fills 1-2 holes they currently have on their roster.
the leafs, atleast the leafs of the late 90's and early to mid 00's, had almost no "future", and the small amount they did have, they traded away. |
