ill give up a second rounder or a quality prospect. even add one in with fasth. but a backup goalie on another team for someone vital to our squad doesn't make us better imo/
especially petry.

reimer is a solid goalie, but hes not surefire problem fixer to say the least. and outside of one of those, im not giving up huge assets.

reimer playing way better than fasth behind this defence isn't a slam dunk

same goes for neuvirth. hes got youth which is nice, but hes no surefire answer. I don't think he outplayed fasth by any means when we played buffalo. he was solid, but giving up perron for neuvirth? no

fasth and scrivens have also put up much better numbers on much better teams.

This is a horrible, illogical way to look at this. Just because he's the #2 goalie on TOR's depth chart doesn't mean he'd far and away be the #1 in EDM, and how "vital" is a "vital piece" of a terrible team?

I agree with your premise but if you are offering up Fasth as the centerpiece of a trade, what possible motivation does Toronto have to make that deal.

Right now, Bernier/Reimer is a workable 1/1A combination. The Leafs team as a whole is prone to epic collapses but I don't think our goaltending is the problem.

You guys are winning- dont (frank) it up with a minor trade- keep the Reimer! The Oilers need a Bobrovsky type goalie- TBH we should have taken Miller for 2 years seein as we fuct our chances at Bishop due to our GM being cheap...

Are you sure it was a money issue? I think the general consensus on Bishop at the time was nowhere near the goalie he was last year in Tampa. It is still tough to say how good he is considering the talent in front of him.

I am pretty sure Nonis would pay that price Edmonton would be crazy to do that deal although it probably makes them a little better today ... if your 2nd line center situation is that bad.

No it was timid Tambi. The deal was Ryan Jones and a 2nd and it was to much for him to pay..

Good blog. I agree with you in almost every aspect. The Oilers certainly aren't world beaters but they have improved their roster and their play this season. It isn't really showing in the standings because the goaltending has thrown away a lot of points for them. I'm not even saying that the Oilers would have more wins if they had solid netminding, but they would possibly even have a few loser points in OT or a shootout and those are important. If you look at teams like Dallas and Colorado who are struggling, they are still managing to get some points out of the losses.

Scrivens has singlehandedly blown games against Vancouver (3-2 Loss), Arizona (7-4 Loss) and Ottawa (4-3 OT Loss). And there have been games where him and Fasth let in bad goals at the wrong time Calgary (5-2 Loss), Vancouver (5-4 SO Loss), Philadelphia (4-1 Loss) and Nashville (3-2 Loss).

Edmonton has issues on defence and they quite clearly need a #2 center, but the goaltending needs to be fixed so that the club can at least show tangible progress this year.
