did you really think it would end any other way? that's what this team does, and by this team, i do not mean the 2014-15 flyers, i mean the organization. - hammarby31
We will continue to "bask" in the ineptitude, while the company yes man finds one excuse after another to spin the futility. |

well if read's poopty play is "only 15 teams" then the same should hold true for anyone else. right now i agree that akeson isn't showing much though. i think he's working hard, but the creative play we saw from him in the playoffs is not there. at the same though, is he bringing anything less than the other cruds? not really. - hammarby31
I'm not close to closing the book on Jason Akeson as a player. I didn't see him as the problem last night. However in comparing a rookie to a player like Read, and think that they would be judged by the same standard, isn't logical. Read has shown over a number of seasons that he is a good NHL player. Akeson, has not to this point. Now Akeson is in his first season, so the difference in games and sample size is obviously not the same. The reality is that a player like Akeson is not going to get the same leeway and leash to find his game that a player like Read is. |

Sitting him makes zero sense.
3 strong seasons of play. After 15 sub par games, had enough? |

Not going to get into a long winded debate over my opinion but the isnt right. He's flubbing passes left and right leading to scoring chances the other way. It's been consistently happening all season.
If Mason needed to breather to get his head straight why would it be so crazy to think Read might need the same thing? |

I think everyone is aware of how Read has played. Comparing goalies to forwards is not a good comparison. Emery played because he was playing well at a time when Mason was struggling somewhat. A common occurrence with managing goaltenders. Who do we put in place of Read?
And then the comment of having enough of Read. He's been a strong player for the Flyers since day 1, through 3 seasons. Now after a stretch of 15 games and a slow start, had enough of him? He hasn't earned a little slack, and some benefit of the doubt? |

So 2 things that surprised me.
Briere has 2 goals this season, both game winners
Mark Giordano is just (frank)ing tearing it up. I had no clue. |

yet another game where the officials have a key role in deciding the outcome.
were the flyers sloppy? yes
were there 3 really obvious calls in the third period that the home team didn't get on a night when the power play was clicking? absolutely.
hartnell throws a punch into voracek's face with the ref 6 feet away looking right at it. (remember all the calls hartsy got away with when he player here? me neither)
sel zotto gets hooked down into the net in the slot by johansen; again ref in perfect position to call it
streit gets hooked and cross checked leading to a turnover when the flyers are creating pressure.
15 games in and still waiting for terrible calls to even out |

They won't sit others who had done little or made many boneheaded plays why would they sit Read? |

Have a rotation upstairs for most of these guys. The view from above can sometimes help.
And before anybody poops on the idea, everybody's favorite son Gagne got put up there a few years ago and he said it opened his eyes to some of what was wrong with his game at the time.

every time he was on the ice last night was a disaster. my favorite was when they broke out through the neutral zone with speed and read tried to pick up the puck just outside the blueline. he ends up overskating it and puts himself offside. felt bad for him but he was terrible |

Rinaldo's at least playing hard, and he's not the most talented guy to begin with.
That's not to say he wouldn't deserve his turn up there, but he's not at the top of the list.

Worst course of action that you could take as a coach. Read doesn't deserve that. He deserves a chance to play his way out of it.

Gagne was out of the league for an entire year. Let's sit Read, who takes his place?

IMO the Flyers just have too many 4-6 dmen and borderline forwards to be a playoff team.
Borderline forwards: VLC* Umberger*, Akeson, Rinaldo, VDV, Jones
*doesn't matter what they've done in the past they are borderline players now. Also while he's looked great so far, you have to wonder when Bellemare hits a wall. He's used to playing a much shorter and easier schedule against weaker competition.
4-6 dmen: Schultz, CC, Schenn, Grossmann, Streit. Also AMac, Coburn and MDZ are only 2nd pairing guys as well.
I want to be optimistic, but I have to be realistic. At the end of the day, Im willing to be patient, I think Hextall has a long range plan and in his heart he knew there was a very good chance that this team would be in the lottery |
