i know the general consensus seems to be Akeson is getting buried and/or not getting a fair shake... but tbh, he hasn't shown me ANYTHING so far this season.
obviously that could change, but ive been pretty disappointed with his play. He just can't seem to put it together
/controversial - Crimsoninja
I won't disagree, but why did he seemed to do well last season on a line with Read and Coots yet has struggled most of this season? I did see him put some pucks on the stick of Zac Rinaldo early on...but he's not going to get an assist on any of those because Zac can't score. I don't know if he will ultimately sink or swim in the NHL, but I want to see him get an extended look with players from the top 2/3 of the skill pool and a chance on the pp now and then before making any conclusions. Of course, Akeson himself needs to make sure he's giving it his all out there and doing everything he can to make the most of any opportunities. Let's also keep in mind this is s smallish player with just a handful of NHL games under his belt...some patience and leeway would be well advised.

That's fine, I just disagree. He had 22 goals in the shortened season of 2012-13, which pro-rates to 37 in 82 games. He's been one of best possession players in the NHL since that season, and he's had stretches over the past three seasons where he's been as good as Giroux, who is undoubtedly elite.
At the very least, it can be agreed he's been really good over the last few seasons and absolutely torrid to start this season. - Jsaquella
Sure but there is a difference between dreaming of what could be and what is. Getting 22 goals during a half season is fantastic! That's great that those goals could be pro-rated to a larger number but for me, he has to physically do so. Voracek could very well score 37 this season but we'll have to wait and see. He didn't do it last season. As far as point production, for all the raw skill Voracek has, his average production is recent seasons is much closer to Wayne Simmonds...up until this season of course. |

I watched that game on VHS tape. My dad would tape them and we'd watch them together when we had time later. I always asked if we could, and he said "nope we don't have enough time" which always confused me, because I always thought "What do you mean...we have 3 hours that are free today..." |

Last season he had something to prove, this season he's more relaxed and it's working against him. Maybe I'm wrong about this but just my thoughts. |

Maybe he just SUCKS - feelingkettle
I don't think anyone who has produced at that level for all of those years in the OHL, the AHL and leading up to and including his first ten games in the NHL, would all of the sudden just forget how to play hockey and at 24 yrs old, just suck.
Seems like almost every player (rookie or not) goes through periods of sub-par play and some people around these parts start to write them off as busts or scrubs. B Schenn was one recent example. While I tend to be a little less forgiving with players on the wrong side of 30, I usually like to give younger players the benefit of the doubt. Hey, maybe he does suck, but I don't think it's that. I think he can at least be that player I saw last season against the Rangers, which, at his salary, would be a good asset to have. I'm not trying to overrate him so much as hoping they don't impede his development with the jobbing they've done on him early on this season. It is my belief that if they show some confidence in him and put him into a position more suited to his skills and attributes, he will give them much more value than he has thus far this season. It's good that Berube seems to be letting Akeson out of the doghouse for some air but obviously still has him on a real short leash. Sometimes you have to keep moving players around until you find the right chemistry. We'll see how things play out.

LOL, I watched it at home, every minute. By the 4th OT I had switched from booze to coffee. When Primeau scored I yelled so loud that I woke my wife, my dog and a few of my neighbors dogs too! I was so jacked up after the game that I ended up hitting an all night diner for an extremely early breakfast and was in my office by 5:30 or so.

Its time to Waive or just trade Akeson.
The kid isn't going to get a proper shot under the current circus leader. He's worked hard enough to at least earn a real look at the NHL, for the sake of his career.
Let another team give him that chance. Just play Jones until Raffl is back. (frank) it. |

You know, I love Scott Hartnell.
There is no debate that during his time as a Flyer he was part of some really great lines over the seasons.
He has a knack for it and looks like he is on another really good line in Columbus with Boone Jenner and Nick Foligno. Those two seemed to be two of the Jackets best forwards after Ryan Johansen. They seem to be pretty underrated as players. All Hartnell had to do was get to the net. I actually think he is getting carried a bit by those two guys, but I also give him some credit. |
