but if yaks is in fact a bust as you say. why would we move eberle? - hugefemale dog77
I never said he is a bust, he is looking less like an elite goal scorer he was pegged to be though
He is still young and on his elc so there is value there and he can turn it around still
Yaks ceiling is higher than eberle so you would have to pick your poison there.
The only thing is eberle is clearly the more established player right now, might not be the case down the line, but Jordan gets the bigger return right now
Edmonton just doesn't want to cut bait on yak too early and have him explode somewhere else for a mediocre return |

If I'm Edmonton, I shake it up big time
Yak, 1st, Rnh for the staal brothers out of Carolina now
Then let Marc staal come running to you in free agency |

No thanks. Too pricey for that return.Where would that leave us in 3 years when Eric bolts , no RNH and we're stuck with that albatross of a Jordan Staal contract?
I would make a deal with the Canes tho.
How about Eric Staal and Cam Ward for Eberle/Yak, viktor Fasth, Jeff Petry, Mitch Moroz and Andrew Ferrence/Nikita Nikitin?
Gotta take some contract back if they're shipping us close to 15 million in annual wages. |

It's not fear of Yak being great somewhere else, who cares, it's about trading him for peanuts only for him to be great elsewhere. Now if someone offered us a 20 year old player with the potential to be either a 40 goal scorer or a #1 Defender I would do it.
And for the record, I kinda wish we had taken Murry instead of Yak, but as of today the impact on our current team would be minimal. Just clarifying for the window lickers that think that Murry on a Yakless Oilers would make us a playoff team this year. |

Lol no one is shipping a potential 40 goal scorer or potential #1 dman for a potential bust in yak, not even close to that
Temper those trade return expectations |

its funny how much things change depending on who we took. we prob take Larsson if we take seguin over hall.
I wanted;
hall
Larsson
murray
nichushkin
draisaitl
thank god they took rnh over Larsson!!!!
still wish we woulda taken murray although his difference thus far woulda been less than minimal.
glad we took nurse |

I don think we get any defender without some question marks for yaks. (myers type) but we also see his massive potential and aint gonna sell him cheap. these bust remarks are sooo exaggerated.
if we had to add in something for a Coburn or myers, fine. but it aint gonna be another bluechip piece.
also,
rnh, yaks and this years first for the staal brothers with the warts they have is not a good deal for the oilers.
and banking that this brings marc cant considered a plus in the deal. we don't actually know he'll go to Edmonton.
and lets not forget that e staal waiving his ntc for edm is a massive assumption.
u way undervalue rnh. watch the player hes becoming this year. and hes still not 22 |

.....and neither is Edmonton. Sorry if that went over your head, but every 20 year old kid with the potential to score 40 also has the potential to be a bust. |

No poop . So speaking of age, if Yak scores 35-40 in his 25th year on Earth and stays there for a good 5 years, is he a Bust? Or is he only being judged on his ELC production?

Oh I know, but that Jabroni didn't seem to get it. Of all comparable players I guess only Yak has the potential to be a bust. |

You need a balance of youth with veteran leadership. You should try to acquire a Sharp, Mike Richards, Ladd, Henrique etc. |

Yeah, those were some ridiculous comments. I wonder if that's what MacT has to deal with when other teams call:
"Hey Mac, how bout I take that bust, Yak off your hands. He's already 20, playing in his third season, was a first overall pick but just can't cut it in the bigs. I got this guy on he farm, you'll love him. He's gonna put up 30-40 for us in a couple years. He's only 20, didn't make our team after a few training camps because we thought it would help his development down on the farm. What do you say, deal?"

yak IS the 20 year old with the potential to be a 40 goal scorer - hugefemale dog77
Realistically, I think Yak definitely has the potential to score 40 goals once or twice in his career but seems more like a perennial 30-35 goal scorer over the majority of his career. Nothing wrong with that though and he can definitely hit 40+ a lot if he gets the quality ice time/linemates and PP time that he deserves.
You should trade him to the Rangers for Skjei + Miller + Fast
I think that would actually be a solid deal for you guys...Miller should bottom out as a 3C and most likely will be a 2C if he can get his NHL production to match his AHL production. He would be on our team right now if we didn't get Kevin Hayes (who definitely matches the high reviews and reports he earned in the offseason). Skjei draws comparisons to McDonagh and projects to be a top-pairing defenseman. He's apparently ready to go pro now and is our potential Marc Staal replacement if Staal leaves as a UFA. Fast is added NHL-ready depth. Defensively responsible and has a little offensive upside....pretty vanilla though.
It's a little more quantity over quality but has the chance to be a steal if the players involved reach their potential. |

No one will disagree, but I think that's why we had Ruan Smyth, Ales Hemsky and now Gordon, Hendricks, And Purcell. But yeah, those guys are not that impactful and we need a guy that can influence the young guys. |

we wont make a deal that doesn't make us better now.
lesser prospects for yaks isn't what the oilers are looking for I don't think.
and we have that young defensive depth that should be ready soon.
im not saying klefbom/marincin are unequivocally better than skjei(?), but theyre pretty quality prospects and certainly more highly touted. but the real point is, I don't see how more of those help.
I like miller and think he could help right now, but hes our 3c long term behind nuge and draisaitl. and that's not mentioning gigantic yakiMOV who thrilled everybody in preseason and probably isn't that far away from a full time nhl gig at 3c.
that said; is losing yakupov worth a marginal upgrade at 2c (and a downgrade on the wing) for this season and maybe 3c going forward ? id say no.
yaks goes for a top pairing dman.
if we have to add, fine.
if we cant get that, reeavulate after this season when his elc expires. |

boyd Gordon and matt hendricks
I will fight anyone who talks sh1t about boyd!! faceoff winning, shot blocking, every tough situation playing, defensive zone starting, beauty.
the oilers had to do with him what they always do- roughly a million over his worth and a year longer on the deal. but hes been full value. worth every single penny. I wish we woulda signed him to another year or two beyond what we did!

Oh I agree, I was assuming he meant veterans in the top 6, guys who can get it done on the same ice as our super kids. |
