I guess what I am asking is, what price you would pay to move their contracts?

I don't see either VLC or Umby finishing their deals here.

Was using the Hartnell deal just as an example of the high cost of moving a declining vet playing on a big money deal.

It would depend on what the return would be coming back

Simmonds is a powerplay specialist, which is good and important, but his 5v5 play isn't anything special.
- wolfhounds

I don't see him as a PP specialist. With the right line mates, he is an effective ES scorer. Not a great puck carrier or defensive forward. Every player has strengths and weaknesses.

I don't buy out either if at all possible. One is too much dead cap space.

If Umberger doesn't pick it up, you gotta buy him out -- he looks done like dinner

Can't really buy out Vinny, but Umberger's been so bad, you can replace what he brings and use some of the savings toward a Del Zotto extension

Wouldn't you say Umberger is virtually untradeable? I would. Who would want him and his salary?
Vinny could be moved IMO to get some kind of return, but I am willing to hold onto him for the season.

They don't have to buy out anybody, it's just an option they have at their disposal.

You probably could, but it'd be a guess even if it's a pretty strong one.

As for the PK, some better goaltending would help.

I watched the highlights of the goals against and I thought Ray was off his game last night.

Capgeek says to buy out RJ they have to carry 1.6M on the cap for the next two years, and then 1.5M on the cap for years 3 and 4.

I guess the option is they may just play him on the 4th line and PK for 2 more years rather then carry the cap hit for 4?

Not sure, but it is a conundrum.

Don't really care for the length of the dead cap hits they'd have to carry

They'd save 3M for the first two years of the buyout, but there would be zero savings on the last 2 years, and instead a 1.5M deficit for those years.

I am still P'D about this trade. Hextall got burned, Hartnell was a character guy and IF he had to be moved I would think they most definitely could have received a much better return than RJ.

He's most effective around the net, screening, deflecting, fighting for and jamming the puck home, which is why I think he's at his best on the PP. But no doubt, he can get some points 5v5 as well, I just don't see it as the place where he's at his best. He's not very fast, he's awkward at times, especially breaking in alone, and he's not much of a playmaker. Guess we're back to the player/line mix not being what it needs to be.

Going to the net for those plays is just as important in ES play as it is on the PP. Looking at last years point totals, and this years. Simmonds has scored a total of 36 goals and 72 points. He has scored 41 points at ES, and 31 points on the PP. And the goals were split evenly at 18 each for the PP and ES.

Yeah, it would be interesting to know if they actually shopped him to more than one team . I believe he did have a no movement clause but I am sure there would have been a number of teams interested

the return on the trade was a head scratcher

I think Berube really pushed for it, but really Hexy should have done better

oh well, water under the bridge

Well EK is saying the Flyers " kicking tires" on Richards would have to do with someone taking VL or RJ ( I think that would be obvious).
Give the Kings both of them!

I don't think Richards is coming to Philly, but if he did it would give them an effective checking line center to take some of the defensive responsibilities away Couturier. Again, I don't think there is anything to this, but Richards would bring something to the team that they don't currently have.

Richards to the Flyers obviously couldn't happen because of the cap situation.

Now if they'd agree to take VLC and retain 1.25 of Richards' salary, then I'd do it.
