Flyers would still have to jiggle it a bit. That's why I suggested adding Coburn & Regher to a deal. Gives LA a needed defenseman with Voynov & Martinez out and balances the cash out - Jsaquella
I think Coburn's worth a little more than that, maybe at the draft. But if you can move Umberger off the roster and get a serviceable player in return...you kinda have to look at everything that would allow you to do that.

Does Vinny fit on the Kings any better than he does here though? - hereticpride
I don't think so. The Kings play a puck pressure tight checking brand of Hockey. Where every line can be counted on to play against anyone. I don't see them having any interest in Lecavalier at all. Doesn't make sense to me.

You know what's funky? For the same reason the Flyers likely took Umberger for Hartnell, I could see the Kings doing the same kind of thing with Richards, where you take a lesser player with a shorter contract, tough financial terms, and move him
I personally don't think Richards has much left -- others disagree -- and I don't think the Flyers would benefit long term at all, but I'll be honest and say even with where I think he is as a player today, he's got more left in the tank than Umberger
Sad, to me, how Umberger just appears to have deteriorated so quickly -- it's one thing to slow down gradually, but where he is now is just tough to watch - AllInForFlyers
Richards is still a quality player, and a capable two way center. I could see the Kings doing that move because it buys them some cap space and future flexibility. And Umberger can still play in a checking role. But why do the Flyers need another center, if they still have Lecavalier?

Yeah, I would want more for Coburn. Just based on the asking prices of top 4 D men over the past few years Coburn has to bring back more.
Hextall could always sell sky high on MDZ with his cap hit. He could put his old boss over a barrell. |

They don't, really -- especially at the term Richards has left. I don't think there's a fit on the Flyers' end, but hell, who knows?
Maybe Hextall really likes the player, feels as you do that he has more left to give, and just wants to acquire him
I don't see it, but it's a slow Sunday, Ek's banging the drum and while his rumors are just rumors, sometimes he does have some insight into the Flyers' thinking at times, though no one is always correct

That's what I'm hoping doesn't happen -- think MDZ could, repeat could, be a part of the solution for the future
Still a long way to go this season, but he's been their best defenseman this season and I am curious to see if he can keep it up |

It just doesn't fit in my view. Although I think Richards is still a pretty good player, he's not a 5.75M player for the next 5 years kind of player anymore. And the Flyers already have two contracts that don't fit long term. Way too risky if you ask me.

I hear you -- I'd pass, but with where the Kings are, if they don't get this Voynov situation settled soon, they are gonna have to do something to free up even a little cash
That's the only real reason I'm curious -- they are so hemmed in by the Voynov situation, I can see them looking at every option they have and you know how that league works. If anybody could do a deal with Lombardi where Lombardi would feel he's not getting screwed, it'll be with Hextall |

Ok.. Vinny, Umberger, and Luke
For
Richards and Williams
I know, I know...Hextall would be utter genius to rid RJ and Vinny in one deal |

That would be a hell of a deal.
They may not even be able to re-sign Williams with everything else going on. |

They have a lot of pressure points on that roster -- Kopitar's up after next year. Martinez is UFA after this season, and the absolute killers: Toffoli and Pearson are RFAs after this season
Even if you get them on bridge deals -- and Lombardi's a tough negotiator -- you are at least tripling their salaries, and that money's gotta come from somewhere, though you absolutely could let Regehr, Stoll and Williams walk

I agree; just if they do move Coburn during the season, personally, I want something for the roster now and for the future, not just cap relief.
I might overvalue Coburn a bit, and I acknowledge that, at times. But I'll be pissed if they just move him as a piece to gain cap relief. Just buy Umberger out this summer if you're gonna do that -- you get $3 million in savings for the next two years, and yeah, there's dead money in Years 3 and 4, but with the way he's playing now, it's dead money walking right now

If you move anyone, max out the return. I'd rather add a Perron type myself, along with a 2nd rounder |
