EDIT: I see Matt has updated his blog. I'm not sure if that is the official pairings as Eakins mentioned he wasn't sure how he was deploying Hall yet.

We have tried guys like Boychuk. Ference, Nikitin, Fayne, and to a lesser extent Belov. 2nd pairing defenders aren't going to make us better. Nurse and Klefbom won't be where we need him to be for a few years yet.

I don't see how adding another teams top pairing defenders doesn't make sense for the Oilers. The guys that are available aren't the best and they come with their red flags but that is why they may be available.

Well his cap hit is actually like 300k more than Schultz. He is not going anywhere unless we are giving them Hall or Nuge, low cap hit and all that talent. We might be able to get Mike Green for a cheaper deal of picks just because he's an FA after this season.

Still think Yandle is the guy you should go after (that could be had). It'd be amazing what a guy who can move the puck and make a pass would be able to do for this team.

Pens don't really have a "shutdown" defenseman, but have 4 guys who can get the puck out of the zone quickly.

I think most offensive defensmen get that label that they are not good defensively and while some definitely earn it I think people just need to find something wrong with everything.
