This rumour doesn't add up for many reasons. Hartnell was traded to alleviate the Flyers cap problems. Yes, both cap hits are pretty much the same however the term is the selling point as Umberger has 2 years left and Hartnell had 4 or 5 years left. Apparently this was good because the Flyers have a few kids that are due to paid when Umberger turns a UFA. So bring in the Mike Richards idea.....the guy has 5 more years after this one at a cap hit of 5.75 vs. Umberger who has 2 more years at 4.6. That's 3 additional years at a 1.15 million per year increase. In what world does that make any sense? Not to mention that the Flyers are already pretty deep at center and besides a blueline they need wingers. Holmgren's best move as a GM was trading Richards and his terrible contract. The worst move Hextall can make is taking it back. |
