Grigorenko is a pretty big guy and he isn't driving to the net. He's a playmaker just like Reinhart. I think Grigorenko is proving we shouldn't make quick judgements on 18 year olds just because they're first round picks.

Maybe Reinhart makes the jump to the big league next year. Maybe he needs a year in Rochester like Grigorenko. Still think both will be solid pros for us in the future.

Well now, that sounds much too reasonable for hockeybuzz.

Enhance his growth ? Really . Let the kid grow bigger and stronger without the fear of some 4th liner lining him up and injuring him to get in the Hockey News . Keeping him here was like an old bra , Pointless. Where are we going this year ? Let him play on junior all star teams , compete for a Memorial Cup and be a teenager with kids his age. He will have plenty of time to play in the NHL.

I look at it just the opposite. The very fact that this team is going nowhere this year is why you keep him up here. That way, you expose him to NHL scenarios and let him learn from them all the while not having to worry about any sort of risk to your position in the standings.

Like I said, the injury thing is grossly overstated. Injuries happen at every level. He has just as much chance of tearing an ACL and missing a bunch of time at the Junior level as he does getting hurt at this level. It's a non-issue.

I don't think any of us, on either side of the argument are labeling Reinhart a bust. The argument is over where he can develop more. Personally, I don't think the answer is a league he is too good for.

Let's say we get Eichel or McDavid. They're two players that take it to the net, while Reinhart isn't. If that's our one-two punch then it might be nice to have two different styles of play for our top two centers. It might make it harder for teams to defend. I mean look at Stamkos and Filppula/Johnson, they seem to have a pretty good one-two punch with the same type of playing styles that Buffalo may end up having one day. You draft for skill level and playing style, not how you want them to play because that seems like quite a gamble. I mean what if a player is incapable of playing the style you want them to? Then it's just a wasted pick. At least that's how I see it...
- buffvegas12

So, I think of it this way.
Players are smart and coaches know the tendencies of players...and that info is used to gameplay on how to stop a team.
If you have two lines who play opposite styles, only one line is on the ice at the same time...so you defend against the tendencies of those players on that line.
If, however, you have complete players who can take it to the net as well as dish off a sweet pass...much harder to defend when said players is coming down on you...one dimension, then take away that dimension.

I'm not saying that each player needs to play like each of Tyler Sequin and Milan Sh!t-head Lucic...no, that would be crazy cool, but like you said 99.9% are incapable of it. On the other extreme, we don't want another perimeter player ala Afiniginov (sp/ no respect)...that's all I'm saying.
Reinhart doesn't need to be a wrecking ball like Brandon Perlini...but how about a little agirgs to his game...bam , to the net!

Well I go with Tim Murray's decision . He is the GM and he felt that was best for the kid's long term development. And he has a lot better chance getting hurt up here than in junior whether you want to admit it or not . He can get hurt in Junior sure . But it won't be some 240 pound journeyman looking for his 15 minutes of fame . If you do not think how those guys think in the NHL , you are just fooling yourself.

If they get McDavid or Eichel, do they keep them up or send them back to Jrs.?

To be clear, I think Reinhart will be a good one when all is said and done.
Like 19 said, we are all on the same side of that. He thinks Junior is useless for his development, I argue there is plenty for him to work on.
I want him to be the best, most complete player he can be...and that means being a dual threat coming down the ice....that's just me though....and a bit of some really good Mitchters Boubon....emmmm good.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Schultzie...you need to start distilling that Bourbon stuff....emm good!

Yes., whatever is right for the player at that time.
There is no shame going back to Juniors/college.
That said, it will totally depend on how many pullups they can do, injured shoulder or not.

You have to judge every player as an individual . There are no rules when making the decision on players futures.

I think alot will depend on the philosophy of the team for next year.
If they begin to usher in the youth movement en mass, the they likely stay up.
If they do a controlled refresh, then it will depend on how good some other youngin's look at center.

But really, With those two, I suspect since they are both projected as generational talents, they will prove to all that they deserve to stay up.

If they are who all the scouts think they are, they will play in the NHL. Without actually looking anything up, it seems like the vast majority of past draftees of the supposed caliber of McEichel usually contribute immediately in the NHL if they aren't trapped in Russia after being drafted (Malkin).

I don't think Murray has a policy of sending down players just because they're young/rookies. I think his policy is to send players down if they fail to demonstrate that they can handle in the NHL from the start.

I think McEichel will show they can handle.

Eichel could go direct to the AHL, correct?
Where as, McDavid would be in the same situation as Rinehart, Grigo and Zadorov?

I'd imagine that they'd stay in the NHL based on all the hype, although, I haven't seen McDavid play since last years WJC and youtube highlights (if those count). I did tune into that BC vs BU game, and Eichel was tenacious and throwing his weight around. Now, I know it's only the NCCA, but he was doing this against players 3-5 years older than him. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he stayed with the NHL team that drafts him next year.

TM said he'll bring up 2-3 players a year. This year it's Risto & Zads. Who is it next year?
Pysyk, Grigs & Armia?

Hopefully, McDavid is ready to go by the World Juniors. I am really, really looking forward to that New Year's Eve matchup. I also really wish they put that game at 7 or 8pm instead of 4pm that day.

There had better be more than 2 ... It will take forever to makeover the team.
3-4 next year...
Grigs,
Armia
Pysyk
McEichel

Trade deadline...then

Injuries, etc. will most likely necessitate more than 2 or 3 a year.

That's what I was thinking. Can only take this scrub team for so long.
