Methot is just another bottom pairing d-man

Our Left D suck right now, so he'd be another middle depth guy right now, but long term would be a waste of money for us.

XXXX-Fayne
Ference-Petry
Marincin-Schultz

That's what I see the defense as next year. Methot likely isn't ever going to be that #1 guy.

Yup I agree, what we should be looking into is Lehner.

What kind of centre do you think we'd get for Perron + Arcobello + 2015 2nd?

I should have made the 3rd LD spot Klefbom/Marincin.

If we want to get better, I think there's one spot for them to fight over next year.

As far as Petry goes, I hope to keep him if at all possible and make sure we move Nikitin and a winger so that we have space.

I'm not confident that would happen though.

If Petry wasn't here, I'd shift Ference over to the right.

I wonder whether we wouldn't get a little throw-in.

It strikes me since Schenn doesn't really play centre for them anyway that he and Perron are fairly even in value. I can see why they wouldn't feel that way though.

I'd let Klefbom or Marincin have a go at replacing Nikitin this summer unless he improves dramatically.

I actually don't understand what the hatred of Schultz as a player is about. He's developing pretty well imo, and he'll probably be a pretty useful in the go-ahead.

To me, it's misplaced aggression about management who seems to think higher of him than the average oil fan. But that has almost nothing to do with his play. And the idea that he was being a selfish holdout this summer is an insidious rumour that is borne purely out of that weird, misplaced aggression.

I'm one of the guys who sees almost no value in Schultz... I think we'd be just as well off with a winger who throws the body a bit back there.

well said.

i certainly dont wanna come off as i think nikitin's been great by any means.

hes a total circus out there. its kinda crazy actually.

i just feel like the vet know how he does have can still be usefull, but more importantly, isnt improved upon by klefbom without some proven nhl impact under his belt.
i actually liked alot of what i saw from klefbom in preseason. big, powerful skater and fairly dynamic actually. but hes still pretty messy out there and id be afraid to throw too much at him. but maybe hes ready. kind of a chicken and the egg thing with needing wins now, while giving an unproven kid a chance so we can move forward with them.

and letting schultz go for just picks is a terrible move imo

Nikitin shares a lot in common with Belov. Both have good shots and size, both struggle with decision making sometimes. Belov could skate much better though and some games looked like our best defenseman.

By many advanced metrics he was our best dman too.

That being said, my big thing about Nikitin is how much he makes. He's under contract for 140 more games as an Oiler and based on his first 20, he'll have to really improve for it to be worth keeping him next year.

You guys are a bunch of negative Nancys! As long as Nikitin is enjoying himself out there, that's all that matters! I don't care if the Oilers win another game ever... As long as our players are being paid well, enjoy playing hockey for a living, and have long, healthy lives, I'm happy. Yay Oilers!!!

The cost is scary and if we can find a playoff team bitten by the injury bug or a team that is trying to make a push to panic and give us a decent player or prospect I would be all over it.

Or maybe Hendo, they are professionals, doing the job they are given, and don't hang out on the net all day, looking at useless corsi stats
