But he did win those super bowls so why remove em? - rangerdanger94
He won them the same way that Joe Flacco won his. He got hot for a very short time, and had a team that played out of their abilities over the same span. Just because you win a Super Bowl doesn't mean you're a special player.
Charlie Batch has just as many Super Bowl rings as Eli Manning. But that doesn't mean they're both HOF-caliber players. |

Well, I guess Joe Flacco is a great QB. He led his team to a Super Bowl and got a big contract.
People make so much out of a QB's success based on the number of Super Bowls he won. People will hold the last Super Bowl loss against Manning. Would any QB have won that game against the Seahawks? No. It's a team game. The QB is the most important, but not the only important piece. |

Yep. It's like the people who argue that Chris Osgood should be in the HHOF based on his Cups and win totals. |

Ok. So you favor 9-1 Arizona in the NFC over GB then right? Arizona is a better team than GB. They should have no problem beating them in the playoffs. |

im not one to not give credit for winning, but i give the giants no credit for winning
props for getting to those SBs and for the defense keeping the games close.
but the supernatural miracle helmet catch after the fallaway blind duck heave...followed a few years later by Welker dropping a pitch and catch game-ender are the two most unbelievable plays in the history of physical human activity.
at least with Buckner, the Mets had to still win game 7. |

He sure isn't. And no one would ever say he was. No one in their right mind. Just because he's not as good as the all-time greats doesn't mean he isn't a good QB. |

Eli's the Doug Favell of quarterbacks; when he's hot he's dynamite, but when he's cold he's just awful

Pretty much. If the Flyers brass had been in Dallas in 63, we wouldn't have found out that Kennedy was dead until sometime around September of 67. |

I guess to an extent. But Favell was never really a full time starter, and he never won anything. |

I don't think the Cards are better. The QB is part of the evaluation of the team, but he isn't the end all be all.
How come a QB is credited with Super Bowl wins, but other players aren't? Does Anquan Boldin get into the HOF? He'll likely finish with over 1000 receptions and over 13,000 yards. Those are great numbers and he won a Super Bowl. He was never a dominant player though. He may never have even been a legit #1 receiver. |

Thats like saying quick is a crappy goalie because his 2 rings were the result of him getting lucky.
I'm not saying manning is a GOAT QB or even a special one but during those 2 super bowl runs he was a special QB. Like when Dirk became a possessed player during the Mavs championship run. |

The guy has won two super bowls. How many active coaches have that on their resume?? Answer.... One. Bill Bellichick. The guy Coughlin beat twice. - PLindbergh31
i'm aware of his résumé. i'm surprised because of the nature of the "what have you done for me lately" business of coaching in pro sports. |

Not sure about Boldin. Boldin played on a team for majority of his career where they had a true # 1 WR that is a first ballot HOF player. That is certainly going to effect his numbers.
I disagree about the GB team. I think if the Cardinals had Palmer healthy they could certainly beat GB especially if they played them at home. With a backup QB they have pretty much zero chance of beating them, just because of the Rodgers/Stanton factor. |

I don't think he's ever been a top 10 QB in the NFL. He just got hot at the right time. |

Missing the playoffs 5 out of 6 years is unacceptable. Even with the Super Bowls. It's going to cost him his job. The GM has to go too imo. Damn you for bringing up Coughlin, it's derailed the thread. |

I can see him maybe barely cracking the top 10 at one point or another but yea he's not exactly a prototypical HOF caliber QB. Who gives a (frank) though he won 2 superbowls |

Does that mean the Saints are the second best team in the NFC because Brees is the second best QB in the NFC? |
