I'm not a fan of it. Constantly screening your own goalie. And blocked shots seems to be a touted stat when talking about D men now. "This guy leads the league in blocked shots." is sort of code for "this guy most likely has trouble getting the puck out of his own zone."

I don't know that it's a reliable explanation. I think that can be taken a lot of ways. Saying he blocked a shot doesn't mean he was trying to do it.

You absolutely cannot block shots in practice. Some guys are willing, which is fine but some also aren't willing, which is also okay.

However in the playoffs, in order to go along way, you've gotta be willing to pay the price. Keith Primeau's face during the 2004 playoffs comes to mind. That's a guy who deserved a Cup.

Yeah... the collapse into the goalie, everybody leaves their feet and belly flops, allow the point men to tee off at will kind of hockey is really irritating to watch. Cherry on top is when star players end up w/ broken this and that.

There are really good defensive teams in the league that avoid leaving their feet as a point of principle: NJ, DET, CHI, etc. Just get your stick in the shooting lane and let your goalie see the damned puck.
