If he benched the player who weren't playing with intensity last night, they would have played half the game with 5 players and a goalie. - MJL
This can be a byproduct of letting a few guys in previous games get away with not giving maximum effort. Players consciously or subsconsciously see when there is no real accountability when a couple of players don't give maximum effort and their ice time is not effected. |

A coach can't bench the entire team. The game is 2-0. He's not going to up the icetime of players like Rinaldo and Vandevelde when one goal can get the team back in the game, and maybe light a fire under the team. - MJL
Why not? His word means nothing otherwise. At some point you have to show you mean business. Why didn't you mention Bellemare? |

I remember about 6 or 7 years ago when the Flyers decided to part ways with RJ Umberger and traded him to Columbus. I told the Blue Jacket fans they would love him. He was a hard working two way player who played an effective game. I was sad that the Flyers couldn't figure out a way to keep him. He was a fan favorite in Philly for his effort, iirc. I think RJ was due for a raise and the Flyers had salary cap issues and he didn't fit into the budget.
Right now he looks like a guy trying to play with a herniated disc in his back.
It's gutsy to try and play through pain, but it's not working. He can't do the things that made him a decent player. He used to win board battles, block shots, forecheck well, and could be effective in front of the net. Now he can barely skate and is losing most of the 50/50 puck battles.
It's hard to watch.
I'm sure Columbus knew this and it's a shame the Flyers made this trade.
I feel bad for him because I remember the player he was.
Maybe he should get the disc removed and go on injured reserve. |

Ok I misunderstood you..
Either way.. the team could not execute simple passes, they looked like the puck was a tennis ball the way they handled it. Stuff like that happens from time to time with good team. It happens more frequently with not so good teams.
What pisses people off about Umberger and Vinny is that the two of them dont execute, they dont win battles, and they look as though they are just trying to make it through their shift. There were several times last night where Umberger was COOKED while standing still in the d-zone. Rags were skating through to the net and he was literally seconds late in reacting. Terrible effort. The guy has been terrible from the pre-season on out. Vinny just isnt a capable top 6 forward any more.. and his style of play is really not ideal in a bottom 6 role IMO. - jak521
What pisses me off is that Umberger and Lecavalier saw their ice time increase last night, despite their poor play. That's why I am singling them out, rather than going after Read, Couturier and others. The ice time of those others didn't increase. The coach decided to give extra ice time to Umberger and Lecavalier, despite both of them being ineffective for long stretches-especially Umberger. |

Hextall needs to pull the trigger. Maybe Petry is available?? - GOA88
The worst time to make a trade is out of desperation. Hextall will end up overpaying and the trade will blow up in his face. Unfortunately there isn't a quick fix to this current mess.
The first move I would make would be to put a goddamned pink slip in Berube's Christmas stocking, and get Guy Boucher in here. |

He can't bench an entire team but he can start benching the corpse instead of giving him PP time. Make examples out of the vets, Bellemare and Rinaldo could have given more spark than Vinnyburger. I would have rather seen those two skating and trying to create chances.
I still want to believe in Vinny but he is here to finish and he had a great chance to make it a 2-1 game and he didn't. Berube should simply reward his players with more ice. |

No I'm saying by the end of the season the Islanders along with the Panthers will fail to make the playoffs. AGAIN. While Philly will be another 1st rd exit, but in the playoffs nonetheless. - GOA88
Um, no. As legit a team as there is in the East. Need to update your tropes. |

I would take our top 6 over the Islanders. Absolutely. The defense is where it gets tricky. While the Islanders currently have more depth. The Flyers have been brutally injured on the back end this season and its hard to really get a feel on how they will turn out as a group. If the Islanders are better on defense than it isnt by much... As of right now the Isles are playing a better team game than the Flyers, thats what is most important. You dont need a ton of depth or talent to win in this league as long as you work hard and have chemistry. - GOA88
So far we've lost Hamonic,DeHaan Visnovsky, DeHaan all to injury at varying times and lengths. Vis who is one of our top 2 has been out since the start of the season and just came back recently. MacDonald will be a first pairing when he gets back. Who would you take MacDonald over on the Islanders? Our #6 is Hickey who is light years better than him. It's not even close when comparing our back ends. I'm getting the impression you're just not aware?
As far as top 6 other than Giroux and maybe Simmonds who stacks up against Tavares, Okposo, Nielsen, Nelson, Strome, Grabovski, and Grabner(who hasn't even played a game yet btw). I even went into the top 9 and I just don't see where there's even a comparison?
With that said I agree with your "team play" comment. Your team can commit to playing a sound team defense if Berube is smart enough to implement that kind of system and they buy into it but once again talent on paper or otherwise you are definitely not more of a playoff team than the Islanders. I don't want to rile any of you guys up I know this isn't the best time but i'm having a hard time relating to this? |

Having all that cap room and being able to pluck Boychuk and Leddy was some coup for Snow. |

They're on a really good trajectory.
Brock Nelson turning out to be the perfect LW complement to JT is a huge boost. And they don't even have Dal Colle, Ho-Sang and Pulock in the lineup yet. |

Or Reinhart. Pulock is tearing it up in the AHL he'll be the next call up when there's an injury. Nelson has been juggled btn the 1st and 2nd lines I actually like him as our 2nd line center but he's been good on JT's wing when he's played there. Nelson btn Strome and Lee has been our best line the last few games save for the last one when Capuano moved Nelson up to the first line mid game. That line was still the best one just without Nelson on it. Strome is going to be our next stand out. Kid has been incredible. |

Are there any fans of the movie Men at Work here? The movie with Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez? Does anyone remember the name of the character of the guy they found dead on their garbage route?

Jack Berger.

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 11/20/14 vs. MIN, Lindros-LeClair HOF, Flyers-NYR Wrapup - bmeltzer
The Flyers under Berube look worse then I've ever seen. I understand the circumstances of the schedule but they haven't looked sharp at all. In fact they've looked about as flat as a team can get. They don't look prepared to play, to compete and this is the third game in a row where they've looked this way for an entire game. You can blame the players for not bringing their "A game" but at what point do you blame the Coach for lack of preparation? Why does the GM have to rip the team? Berube has said from the start that he doesn't believe in yelling at the team but sometimes it's exactly what a team needs.
This team misses this guy! Huge mistake of firing this guy! Experienced NHL Coaches like this one turn around bottom feeders. |
