Would you guys take Lecavalier under any circumstances? If the cost was low, he was paired with a desireable asset and we got to shed salary for example? |

For everyone talking about players "leading" teams out of the basement, remember that a team featuring
Mario Lemieux
John Leclair
Brooks Orpik
Ziggy Palffy
Mark Recchi
Sergei Gonchar
and Sidney Crosby
Finished 2nd last in the league once upon a time. - Morris

So like they offer Lecavalier at 4.5 million for the next 4 years, we offer them a player of around the same talent (at this point Nikitin or Purcell) at the same clip for a shorter contract. They add a guy like Coburn who really legitimizes the point of the trade for us and we add a defensive prospect of some solid repute (klefbom or Marincin) and maybe a pick. Am I close to the framework there?
They get:
to scrub three years of 4.5 million in cap hit off the books.
a functional NHL D/Winger
a pretty good D prospect
a draft pick
We get:
A good Dman
A decent if over the hill depth centre |

Reading the flames threads now is like reading the leafs threads in 2013 or hearing from avs fans last year.
Regression is a heartless b*tch that's coming for you. Far far from a playoff team |

I'd think in terms of value Nikitin>Lecavalier, just because Nikitin's up in 2 years and Vinny's on til he's 38 and continues to be hit by the injury bug.
I'd like to keep Purcell. Strong possession player. Production hasn't been awful despite terrible luck (922 PDO). And I'm not sure who the 3RW becomes. Pitlick? |

Vinny+Couturier for Nikitin+Eberle
maybe. Though Lecavalier is just awful and that contract is bad bad |
