Reading the flames threads now is like reading the leafs threads in 2013 or hearing from avs fans last year.
Regression is a heartless b*tch that's coming for you. Far far from a playoff team - TheNugeIsHuge
The thing that I think is sad when regression hits a team is that the fans rarely say "well, we were playing out of our minds earlier, so we had to come down to earth sometime". Instead they say "how did we COLLAPSE like that? What a bunch of choke artists" and then they run perfectly fine hardworking players out of town and replace them with more guys who "passion" and "grit" but are actually less adept hockey players.
hopefully if/when it happens to the flames they're prepared to stay the course a bit and not get wrapped up in crazy mortgaging moves because Tambo made standing pat look bad. or not |

So like they offer Lecavalier at 4.5 million for the next 4 years, we offer them a player of around the same talent (at this point Nikitin or Purcell) at the same clip for a shorter contract. They add a guy like Coburn who really legitimizes the point of the trade for us and we add a defensive prospect of some solid repute (klefbom or Marincin) and maybe a pick. Am I close to the framework there?
They get:
to scrub three years of 4.5 million in cap hit off the books.
a functional NHL D/Winger
a pretty good D prospect
a draft pick
We get:
A good Dman
A decent if over the hill depth centre - Morris
Coburn is overrated |

I'd think in terms of value Nikitin>Lecavalier, just because Nikitin's up in 2 years and Vinny's on til he's 38 and continues to be hit by the injury bug.
I'd like to keep Purcell. Strong possession player. Production hasn't been awful despite terrible luck (922 PDO). And I'm not sure who the 3RW becomes. Pitlick? - TheNugeIsHuge
I meant they're similarly talented players at this point with the same cap hit.
Bad backs are killer, so Niktin might as well be 35+ if that keeps up.
The length of Vinny's contract is what makes it a favour for usto do that component of the trade straight up, so it counts as value towards the Coburn component. |

Chris Stewart has 2P in 25GP with buffalo. I remember BUF and some EDM fans proposing something around Eberle and Stewart when he was traded there |

Coburn is overrated - Ihatebrianburke
He's sort of essentially a bigger Jeff Petry right?
Skates well, but isn't a big offensive threat. Has size but isn't particularly physical. Has good positioning but isn't a dynamo in his own end. Has smarts but also has brainfarts. Essentially dependable, low-event hockey for at least 20 minutes a game.
I'll take another one of those guys. |

It wouldn't matter had we not screwed up when we drafted Nuge instead of Dougie Hamilton 1st overall in 2011. - Morris
I'm still shaking my head at Yak over Seth Griffith decision of '12. Tambo royally screwed us by going off the board |

Why did we draft another winger like Yak when we could have drafted a CENTRE like Galchenyuk who just happens to PLAY wing? |

It's funny looking back at the Avs/Blues trade, the he was considered the main piece going the Blues way. |

It was right after the Bruins won the cup and everyone was clamouring for the next Lucic/Horton. |
