Canucks-Oilers trade is as much Craig MacTavish giving Wil Acton a fresh start as anything.
Seems like the same thing can be said for Lain. - Canuckleafer
AHL trade more than anything IMO. |

TRADE --> #Oilers acquire centre Kellan Lain (@klain19) from @VanCanucks in exchange for centre Will Acton. - Canuckleafer

The guys who watch the Comets regularly have said that Lain is one of the least impressive players on the team. He's 25 years old and still failing to impress as an AHL bottom 6 player, I'd suggest that his NHL potential is nill. Acton sucks at the NHL level but has been a solid role player in the AHL.
I guess Lain's size still makes him intriguing enough for Edmonton to give up the better AHL player. - Nucker101
If lain is that bad, then it's better to get something for nothing, I trust Bennington ability to judge talent... |

We need someone who can win face offs, with Bonino, Mathias and vey well below 50%, you can't trust them...I think Acton can play 4th line and win face offs when needed. - moondawg

Oilers need someone to take over the big-body pylon spot in OKC now that Aulie is getting regular minutes in the NHL... |

Both guys are career AHL'ers. Simple as that. They may both get another call up or two in their lifetime, but unless a team is tanking they have no value. |

Acton couldn't make the OILERS on a regular basis. The only reason he got a sniff was because of his dad being a coach. |

I don't see WD scratching Vey for Acton. I'd be shocked if Acton becomes a regular for the Canucks. There's a reason why he couldn't crack the Oilers, a team starved for grit and centers at the NHL level, and with his own dad as an assistant coach for them. - Nucker101
All of this is true but I still like the deal, he might still be behind Jeffreys in the depth chart but might be the better bottom 6 C call up. |
