Pathetic that his own parents would do that. - Nucker101
Gotta blame him for not taking care of his own finances though. When ma and pa went out and bought a massive house and bugatti's each. I think I'd step in. |

The coaching staff need to put him in a position to success, by that I mean keep putting him in there like they've done with Sbisa, no matter how many mistakes you make we're gonna support you and work with you. That should be the mentality.
But they can't, they've got too many bodies, with Vey in the mix they have to poop or get off the pot when it comes to developing a 19 year old kid...junior or NHL...but he's gotta play!! - LeftCoaster
This is exactly it. Put the kid in a position to succeed and he most likely will as he has shown us he has the tools. But I will agree with some on here Horvat looked like he was trying real hard tom play 'safe' last night.
It's a damn shame too cause he's exactly what we need on the bottom 6 going down the stretch. But if he isn't going to be given a chance to succeed which is seems he clearly isn't they have no choice but to move him down...too many bodies. Still not a good move IMO but if Jensen keeps lighting it up in Utica he will be back when injuries hit again.
What the hell is wrong with Burrows too? Sure Scrivens did the swan dive on the Hamhuis disallowed goal but man Burrows was still in the paint. A major stupid penalty that got the Oil right into the game and a screen on Miller to provide the 4th for Edm too...is he rattled because he was asked to waive his no trade??
Burrows has cost us two games already this season and that was almost a third last night...what the hell is wrong with his head?

Honestly, Scrivens went down like he was shot. It was a reputation call on Burrows IMHO. |

You are allowed to be in the paint and you are allowed to have incidental contact. The contact needs to " impair the goalkeeper's ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal"
It was a weak call but whatever it happens, but I will happily have the canucks take goaltender interference penalties all day long. Burrows plays his best when getting under the skin of guys and has been playing well. If you want to blame anyone for almost losing the game, blame Miller. |

I'm still waiting for him to "stabilize" the net like Benning promised.

Two shots off two sticks ya Miller looked shaky but I wouldn't hang him out to dry for last night.
Fair enough you are correct they are allowed to be in the paint and Burrows does play best when agitating there but man there has to be something wrong upstairs with him. That penalty for the 2nd Oil goal was man...stupid and at precisely the wrong time. Either it's coincidence or something but wow...his discipline (or lack of) is out of control and yes I would have hung that game on Burrows last night if we'd lost. 2nd PP goal for Oil was all Him and the third (tying goal) most likely does not happen if the previous stuff didn't take place. I know that's reaching but that's how I see it. Plus the screen on Miller for the 4th Oiler goal...wow man...just wow

I've never liked the idea of giving a player a raise over his old salary once he is in his 30's.
Especially someone who plays the way burrows does.
He signed this contract when he was 32, and every year from here on out he is going to get worse. |

+1
If you start adjusting/tweaking Burrows' game we are going to be looking at the Burrow 2013 version under the coach that shall not be named. We've seen how much 'success' that had. You have to take the good with the bad and I'd take Burrows style of play any day. |

Good luck trying to find a top 6 player in his early 30's coming off a 24 g 52 pt season not getting a raise especially if they were making 2 mil per season.
Comparable cap hits and age:
Most are worse players.
Erat
Fleichmann
Backes - Better
Purcell
Lecavalier
Laich
Cole
Umberger
Hartnell - Comparable talent
Gionta
Erikson - Better but not by a huge amount
that deal isn't so bad, ya it could be better but most GM's in the league sign that deal and I seriously doubt you were singing this tune when it was signed. |

Why reward a player who you know his numbers are incredibly inflated and he will never ever reach them again because of his age.
worked out great when the canucks passed on Anson Carter |

It was an infraction sure, but you are right, Scrivins went down a little too easy. Fine line between trying to sell a penalty and costing your team the game. |

If you never paid your players what other teams are willing to you would be wors than the Oilers. |

Yeah, I bet Scrivens was well aware of who it was though. Much more likely he gets that call when it's a Burrows/Kassian/Sestito making contact with the goalie compared to a Vey/Bonino. |

Oh he knew who it was, Burrows had his back to the goal from the hash marks. He only missed stopping by a few inches, risky play for the goalie. |

I remember quite a few posters here had guy like Mallet/Lain/Greiner pegged in future lineups 2-3 years ago. (frank)ing Gillis. |

Scrivens played the odds, he knew he had a better shot at getting the call than stopping a puck. |
