The Flyers should just start treating RJ like Milton from Office Space.

I agree. It seems a weirdly insincere gesture to me. - johndewar
It would be a lot funnier if at the end of each victory, they all pulled a Ned Braden! You know, strip down to skates and a jockstrap while skating around and waving to burlesque music. |

I personally don't want to move any of 5-10-12-14-15-17-24-28-49-93 altho no one is untouchable if the deal is right of course.

Alex Semin makes more money than Vinny Lecavalier.
I wouldn't necessarily pursue that deal, but if one were to pursue that deal, I'd expect Carolina to eat salary or send something else our way to make up for the extra salary hit. - johndewar
I was just thinking as a way to get a productive winger and move Vinny. Then next year if he wants to leave for KHL you let him then use that cap for better |

It's not a bad idea. Semin is just not my brand of vodka, as it were, although I admit that I haven't followed him much since he left (or, was jettisoned) from Washington. |

Just some questions for debate.
Per Dreger: “Quietly, the criticism on Cheveldayoff is that he doesn’t make trades. He doesn’t make trades: player-for-player type of trades. And Winnipeg is a team that definitely needs some help on the back end. I’m sure they would like to add a bit more jam and a bit more upside to their top nine forwards. Most NHL teams are looking for that type of player.
If out of it at the deadline, would you trade Coburn and Read to WPG for 1st roudner, rights to Alex burmistrov and Nikolja Ehlers?
Also Alex Semin has been a healthy scratch in Carolina. WOuld you trade Vinny to Carolina for Semin straight up? - J35Bacher
Winnipeg wouldn't trade Burmistrov and Ehlers straight up for Coburn and Read, let alone throwing in a 1st rounder.

I agree in general with what you have said, but watching the game last night makes me think Laughton and Couturier may not have the exact same skill set. Laughton is MUCH faster than Couturier and at least last night shows more offensive upside, while Couturier is a better defender. I'd like to see what Laughton brings over a chunk of the season before I agree with the idea that Laughton and Couturier bring the same skill set. - ManCity
I know I'm in the minority, I just don't think you'd get quite enough offense with G-Couts-Laughton.
Plus, at some point you gotta give a little to get a little. I'd rather have a LW at least as talented as those guys vs. the dozen centers we have on the team. |

I was actually thinking of this yesterday. Ironically, Semin might be just the kind of guy that Vinnie would need to really get going.
I'd consider a deal that would send additional salary back to Carolina and get us a pick back. Like include Grossmann and get back a 2nd rounder.
But long-term, carrying Semin could be problematic when Jake's deal is up (and others). But just maybe you could motivate Semin enough to turn him into an asset to be flipped later.

I'd rather just address it through the draft. Lot of top-flight forwards in the 2015 class... many of them will probably be NHL-ready in 1-2 seasons. |

Laughton is unknown. Giroux is one of the top scoring players in the entire league. Couturier produced at 2nd line center level at ES last year. |

That is what makes the TDL great. If WPG is in the playoffs and need top 9 forward and top 4 dman then they will have to pay. Some people think Read is untouchable. I was just presenting a theory where I don't see it |

Then, sportswriters would wring their hands over how the players stripped and if they did so with the proper amount of intensity and vigor. All of the reading of body language during the strip tease would just be awkward.
Also, if other teams did this, you'd have pissing contests over who has the classiest strippers on the team. |

Mr Snider said I could... could... could have a spot in the basement, and then he moved me into the parking garage.. and I told him I don't want to be in the parking garage because there's bats and bugs... and if they move me again, I'm gonna burn the building down" |

Fair enough. And forwards do develop faster than Dman.
But considering the Flyers very well might have a pick in the 5-10 range, would you rather have:
G - Strome - Couts/Laughton down the middle and an Ehlers (for example, or bigger) wing acquired from the other of Couts/Laughton
G - Couts - Laughton and a LW acquired in draft.
There seems to be a glut of centers this year, and not as much on left side.
I really want Strome if they're picking high. |
