I hope Booth doesn't get injured in the AHL, Leaf fans might take it as a snub.

No kidding, I'd take Dillon over Demers 10 out of 10 times. What the hell happened? there's got to be more to this story. Dallas management aren't that stupid (are they?)
- Zogg

Dillon's struggled a lot this year and at times last year according to Stars fans. I still think SJ made a solid trade though.

Per Jim Nill, the Stars badly needed a righty and as Nucker mentioned Dillon hasn't been all that great of late. Neither has Demers after putting up 34 points and getting a nice raise last season, hence the trade. Apparently the Sharks retain a portion of Demers' salary as well.

What the Stars really need is a #1 (or even #2 on some teams) D man to log big minutes and be solid in his own end. Someone like a Marc Staal.

Interesting, I always felt that Dillion was exactly the type of player they needed (or were grooming to become). I think they may have given up too early on the kid. From what I saw him play the guy is ole time hard nosed hockey (and with a little bit of offensive upside)

Dillon's definitely hard-nosed. Hits and block shots like a champ. Demers has the greater upside in points. You could be right that they gave up too early but 2 home wins in 11 games will cause a reaction and Nill obviously saw the need for a righty as rather important.

- Zogg

That has to go down as one of the most devastating things to happen to this franchise. I can only imagine what his family must've went through, and only continue to go through.

He'd be one of our top defenceman right now, but sometimes God has different plans I guess.

Kind of hard to find much wrong with the team this year. They brought in some much needed new faces, made some good picks in the draft and trades. They battled the top team in the league twice to square. They are playing with emotion. Sedins having a good year.

There are still a few things to be concerned about but so far I am ranking them a B+

That would seem to be the case, in my opinion. All I know is, I would love to have a kid like that on our team. You can always refine Dillon's game but he already has that 'nasty' edge and plays a tough old style approach, the same sort of characteristics that GM's covet. A perplexing move (par for the course when it comes to GM's )

Yes, Demers has more offensive upside (and at least the Sharks are picking up some of his salary). I suppose it eases some of the 'pain' in terms of any possible buyer's/seller's remorse

I can't even bring myself to talk about it on these boards. Even now any comment seems trite and open to trolling.

Agreed, i don't think the situation is that dire.

Top 4 of Bieksa, Edler, Tanev, Sbisa is decent with Stanton, Weber, Corrado and countless other call-ups available.

Grabbing someone of waivers, such as Schlemko last week would have been a good move.

Even 7th defenseman are getting decent value back nowadays.

- Whiskey-Tango

Trade ARI Vrbata's unlucky jock strap for Schlemko. ARI would probably be happy to shed the contract.

If we didn't have Sbisa, Benning likely would of picked up a different D-man which might of been the better move. It still remains to be seen if Sbisa can be a regular player but so far IMO he looks like a 7th D. Regardless the Nucks do need to sort out their defensive depth. A trade with Pitsburgh would be nice as they have a number of NHL ready prospects (Pouliet, Harrington, Despres, Dumoulin, Bortuzzo), I doubt Pouliet or Despres are available but Harrington would be a really nice pick up.

Harrington for Hansen. Problem solved. We get the D depth that when need and Hansen can step right in for Dupuis. Worked for us when Vrbata went down

If you get Harrington for Hansen that would lock Benning as GM of the year

Not many Leafs fans are worried about David Booth. If he can step in and play a solid 10 mins a night, without being a liability, most will be satisfied.

Frank Corrado is not an answer, I would be okay with him getting packaged up with a center and a pick for a quality defenseman.
