The guy who plows my driveway needed to use a front loader to clear it. The last I heard we got 57 inches. I was reading the story this morning about the guy in Alden who died in his car, very sad.

Extremely sad. The thruway authority is going to start getting some serious heat put on them for the continued inability to keep people from getting stranded on the thruway. The governor had a lot of nerve blaming drivers for getting on it. They knew the storm was coming... At the very least, every thruway entrance should have a little shed next to it to store roadblock equipment with employees dispatched to set them up when the first flake falls.

I only feel bad for the ones that got stuck on the thruway the first few hours all this went down. They legitimately got stuck. But I have ZERO empathy for a lot of the dumb asses I heard on the radio. "We just had to make a quick trip to the airport. It normally takes us 10 minutes and now we've been stuck here for 30 hours !".

There is an onus on the commuter to stay off the roads in bad weather. Some people got stuck out of nobody's fault but their own. However, when the local Thruway director comes out and says we should have closed the Thruway sooner, it sounds to me like the idea was thrown out there and then overruled. There is very little excuse for that.

Right...it keeps happening and it shouldnt, I havent looked at the thruway budget recently but its enormous, and there's no excuse for what happened.....again. Of course there's going to be a bunch of people who foolishly try to get out and drive around, but the point is that if they had closed the entrances to the road, it wouldnt have happened. You dont need people to do that, just a simple roadblock that could be easily stored where they are needed, and set up in a few minutes
