I think he's still got it, he's just not using it for whatever reason.
I'd categorize him as a major disappointment. - tangent_man
It's disappointing that he hasn't played better, but I didn't expect much more than a solid third liner. He's failed even in that modest task. |

I'd categorize this as a major understatement.
If he's still got it, that's news to me, because he hasn't shown anything to even hint that since the start of the season. He's been a tire fire and it's really starting to piss me off.
Hopefully he get into a groove though. Mercy. - Giroux_Is_God
When a player is not contributing any offense whatsoever, then he can't afford to make many mistakes in other areas. As those will be rightfully magnified. Couple that with the cap hit he has, and who he was traded for. It spells disaster. Umberger needs to play an almost perfect game away from the puck defensively, or he's going to face the criticism that comes with all of that. The Flyers are in a pickle with Umberger. They want him to play his way out of it.

That's what gets me. I didn't expect much either. Just a solid role player who can handle himself on a 3rd line
I'm not sure he could play the third line on my brother's travel team. |

It's like he's playing with a few blown synapses in the 'hockey smarts' area of his brain, and it goes back to last season in Columbus.
Maybe there's something going on in his off-ice life (remember Hartnell's impending divorce and how he slipped badly that year?), I don't know, but I hope he snaps out of whatever's ailing him soon.

That's why I want Bellemare to slide up. Or at least assume Umberger's special teams ice time. What good is having a solid 4th line, when the third line isn't very good?
The addition of Laughton has mitigated that a bit. But the third line would be better with Bellemare

Agreed. Umberger needs to get off special teams.
Speaking if special teams, let's not talk about the PK |

I have zero problem with switching Umberger and Bellemare. But here is the problem I have. Most of this fanbase has wanted the Flyers to get a better 4th line. One that can play without getting outshot, and out chanced every game. Bellemare does that for the Flyers in centering the 4th line. Adding him has made a difference in that department. So if they move Bellemare, that might create a weakness there.
I'm pretty sure that if the Flyers could find away to move Umberger off the team, and cut their losses, they would. But the chances of doing that are almost nil at this point. So instead, they continue to play him in the hopes that he improves. He is also a LW, and with Raffl hurt, the are short on LW's. So hopefully when Raffl comes back, he can take over, and Umberger can move to the 4th line, which is where his current level of play, dictates that he should be. - MJL
Well I will like to see what happens when White is healthy. I am sure their" hope" of his improvement is fading away every game. Bottom line.. For now his minutes must be cut. Hell.. Bring Rosehill up for a few games to breathe some life and edge into this lineup. At least he skates hard |

The team would be better with Raffl back, on one of the top 3 lines. With Bellemare remaining at center. And Umberger moved to the 4th line. Raffl can take minutes on the PK. But right now, until Raffl gets back, that can't happen.

Not we've hit rock bottom. White was never a guarantee to make the team. I would suspect that when White is healthy enough to play, that he goes to the Phantoms. Maybe you see Rosehill as an improvement. I don't. |

He was like this last year too. I just don't understand what they saw in him. I feel like they could have flipped Hartnell for a better contract if they weren't interested in finding a decent player. |

No he wasn't. Last year Umberger scored 18 goals and had 16 assists. This year he has 1 goal and 2 assists through 19 games. Which puts him on pace for 2 goals and 8 assists.

And do what with Umberger?
And what if you find that any of those players aren't ready for the NHL?

Not sure any of them would be very effective right now. Cousins has the best chance, but I don't think Berube would have the patience to stick with him if he wasn't consistently playing great. |

We can debate where Umberger plays until we are blue in the face. Point is no matter where he plays he will have far more bad plays than he will good.
Flyers are stuck between a rock and a hard place with this guy. All they can do is pray to God he gets his sh!t together. |

Man have you nailed this. Either that or chew up cap space with a buyout (ARRGGHHHH)
Can you think of any team who may need useless salary to get to the cap floor next year?

Can't they play him less? Put him on the 4th line and move PEB up? |

They won last night, which is about the only thing that makes this tolerable -- Giroux, Voracek, Schenn, Del Zotto, Streit and the goalies are covering up a multitude of sins right now.
Bellemare has been good for his role, and Grossmann has done what I expect him to do. Raffl was on fire before he got hurt.
Laughton is a rookie, and Schultz has certainly surpassed expectations.
That is roughly half the roster. Everybody else, imo, needs to step it up significantly, and that includes Simmonds and Couturier. Couturier could stand to be more aggressive, shoot more and drive the net more, while Simmonds needs to protect the puck better and win more battles at ES.
The only reason they wouldn't make the playoffs is if that half of the roster continues to perform like they have, as a whole, to this point of the season. And that cannot be tolerated |

clearly very skilled, but he better learn to skate to with his head up.
when he's older and the goalies are bigger and can actually move laterally, he's going to have to come up with other ways to score on breakaways than using the deke to get score low on the ice inside the post. |
