Equally hilarious that Columbus turned Voracek into Jack Johnson. That's pretty embarrassing.
Jake has been awesome this year. Almost 1/4 of the season down, and he's leading the NHL in scoring. I don't think he will keep up this unconscious pace, but I think he'll finish in the top 5 if he plays a full season. - PLindbergh31

The worst thing is...the trade keeps getting worse. I really thought LSchenn was going to put it together - and still hope he does - but his window appears to be closing. - wolfhounds
At this point he is what he is. Which is a third pairing defenseman. |

I understand the rationale behind the trade. But it's been an unmitigated disaster. |

How about the big man's play that led to the rush on the Streit goal? I was very impressed. |

If they just get a little help from the rest of these forwards -- and Schenn is certainly doing his part -- man.
They are looking like they are going to put up monstrous numbers. Hextall has to see that.
Raffl will help when he gets back. But Hextall has to know that when you have two guys going like that, and a PP that is going like it is where it creates chances...
Man. You cannot just let five or six passengers keep you from taking a shot at destiny.
There has to be something out there. There has to be some way to tweak those bottom six forwards, or find someone to help Simmonds be more consistent if you take him off the Couturier line.
Something has to be out there

They really miss Raffls two way game. The bottom 6 is somewhat of a mess. Maybe Laughton sticks. Bellamare is solid. Turdberger, VL, Rinaldo, VDV are simply taking up space.

You mean Brayden Schenn, yes?
Because I think Craig Berube would demote Luke Schenn back to Reading if he were allowed to. |

Agreed and the scary thing is you can easily make a case that over the past 5 games or so Couturier, Read, Simmonds are taking up space.
Hopefully they can build off last night and the good things from the Wild game. |

Two of these four must be upgraded. Don't know how, don't care how. Don't even care who. And they don't have to be world-changing, salary cap-sucking moves. Just someone like, for example, Marcel Goc, who was on an expiring contract last season.
But upgrading two of those four might be enough to make this season memorable, and I refuse to believe that nothing can be done |

I'm not sure why some folks think that Umberger CAN play any better than he is currently doing. He struggled down the stretch last year with Columbus and has been terrible for nearly a quarter of a season so far this year.
I think we need to accept that when it comes to R.J. this is what he is. I have seen NOTHING that makes me think he can turn this around. He looks slow, weak, and, quite frankly, disinterested. IMO, he has no business skating in an NHL lineup at the present time.
I would waive him and send him down. I don't really care that they save only 925k on the cap, I just want to see if that sends a message. Does he pick up his play in Lehigh Valley? If not, they may have no choice but to just buy him out after the season and live with the cap implications. Carrying a 4.6 million hit for a completely shot and useless player is just unacceptable. - BiggE
Not sure why some folks think that it is impossible for Umberger to play better. It's not as if he can get much worse. I don't think he is slow or disinterested. I think he is incredibly frustrated and in a funk. And I think he can play better. I wouldn't waive him. It makes zero sense. He can still play on the 4th line.

Wouldn't it be a 4 goal pace? Or is he going to be benched for half the season for poor play? - wolfhounds
You're right, 4 goal pace. But what's the difference?
