It seems there are two ways to build a team. From the middle or the net out.
The oilers have failed both areas. Look at the Devils when they had Brodeur, Neidermeir and Stevens.
Today's Habs.
The Penguins have built from the middle.
But it is hard to argue that of all the recent Cup winning teams of the past, they all had one thing the Oilers don't have. Defense. - Pikey Fan
Which is why I suggested those trades.
Having ROR and RNH as your top two centres with draisaitl coming is a good centre core.
Having yandle and wideman as a top pairing is an upgrade. With nurse and klefbom coming
Adding Reimer helps a little in net.
Would set this team up for years, keeping Hall, and scoring would still to be a problem. |

Hall is not top 5 LW in NHL. - SPIDEROCKSTAR

According to this, which is subjective much like your view, he is very good for his age and only going to get better offensively and defensively as his game and age grows.
He's worth a ton in terms of trade value!!! |

He can't be an average starter if he hasn't proven he can start. |

Yeah, Mac T isn't an idiot. Hall is likely untouchable, as he should be. |

They need to use their depth/strength on the wing to get deeper down the middle. No one is untouchable when you're trying to build a competitive team...no one!! |

Reimer has done just fine in his career in toronto. His sv% has been good considering our defensive lapses and took us to the playoffs.
His problem, is he needs consistent ice time. He's a goalie that gets into a groove. He needs to be traded and someone will eventually take a chance on him.
I'm saying it should be Edmonton. |

Hall is much better than those guys - Pikey Fan
In retrospect Oilers would possibly be better off in the longrun if they took Tyler instead of Taylor, but there's no doubt about Hall's talent. |

i could argue with all of the names mentioned.
ovie is a right winger, parise is better two way, but not the offensive machine that hall can be etc etc etc.
but pacioretty and kunitz don't even belong in this debate. ridiculous.
im not gonna argue this any further though. your skills are weak - hugefemale dog77
Pacioretty 39 goals last year. He is good defensively. Play PK and PP. Hall gets all the meaningless points after the other team just can't wait for the time to end. The right point was open all night yesterday. |

Perron for a top line center?!? Since when do 2nd line wingers get you a top center? Unless it includes a big "+".
And how is Eakins and his staff still employed? Time for a significant trade and a new coach(even an experienced interim HC is fine). - Nucker101

If MacT thinks he's getting a 1st line C for Perron he is an idiot. Unless he adds a top pick. |

I don't understand why we differentiate between LW and RW. They are both wingers and it doesn't take a special skill to play one side or the other. |

ya they picked him purely because of his "highend" skill-set - really
If you don't know or understand why they picked him then maybe you should move along and let the adults talk? |

Before this season I would agree that Hall > Nash but this season Nash has been all-world. But yea, these types of rankings change basically on a month to month basis. There was one stretch last year where Sharp was considered a top 5 winger in the game when he was lighting the league up but that slowly faded away. |

Some players have no issues playing either wing, others just can't adjust. There is a special skill to play one side or the other, if you're a left handed left wing you can pass using your forehand. If you get switched to the right wing, you need to use your backhand. Much, much harder. But hockey is so fluid that players are constantly cycling. |
