To be fair, more ice time for Umberger is type of punishment because he just looks so damn bad. And for longer.

Craig Berube needs to seriously consider sitting people not named Jason Akeson.

why? he's slow. small. is terrible away from the puck and doesn't compete. don't you know that already?

they're too easy to play against. and the 2nd/3rd line guys are nothing but dead weight offensively right now.

eliminating umberger and bunny will be addition by subtraction, even if they have to buy them out.

- hammarby31

Not sure what other options they have outside of what they already did in bringing up Laughton

When the Islanders looked like they were gonna lose the zone, a defenseman was fast and savvy enough to make a play to maintain possession.

When the Flyers did have something going the other way, a forward was charging back to help.

All this Flyers team can do is fall back, which why they get pinned in their zone for chunks of time.

- johndewar

I hear you, and I agree totally with what you just said

But those forwards -- man, sometimes they kill their own breakouts and cycles with ridiculous "hope" passes or just straight-up inaccuracy or inability to receive

Once I saw how the Isles were gonna pressure the puck carrier and they had the speed to recover, I knew that Mason was our only hope

They allowed a ton of a quality chances. They chased the puck 90% of the game. Playing defense because you can't get the puck out of your own end isn't doing what you have to do to get a point, it's getting your ass handed to you and being lucky your goalie was on fire.
- Jsaquella

They aren't capable of much more than this. The isles just beat a red hot pens team back to back. I'm not questioning the manner at how they got this point tonight. They tightened in their own zone even if it was 90% played in it.

Same way they took rangers to 7 games last year. That's what they have to do

I would eat half of the Umberger contract just to be done with him. Bring up Cousins, Leier, Straka, a cheap vet. Anyone.

The trouble is, they are capable of more. They have had good performances against good teams this season.

I'd be fine if they actually did suck. The trouble is, they're a talented, but inconsistent team that has holes. On any given night they can play anyone tough.

I don't think you're taking this seriously enough.

Come back later and be more solemn. And salty. In equal parts.

It's a (frank)ing joke. There's no other word for it.

Bill Clement literally just said the coach can take away ice time...Berube gives Umberger more and more. It's ridiculous.

- Jsaquella

Lol. Berube really is doing everything possible not to play Akeson. Its pretty funny.

The Isles have the kind of team and system that gives them fits, though -- similar to Tampa, and they stuck with it

That's the maddening part. And they quite clearly have the goalie who can steal them some games. They just need to fill those big holes you mentioned.

Hextall should waive him tomorrow and recall Leier or Gordon or Jones. Emery will be playing wing before Akeson.

I feel like this is just a (frank) you to Hextall. Like Hextall wants him to play Akeson but Berube is like "the lineup card is mine"

That's when you need to start skating the puck out.

They get stationary, defenseman passes it to a wing along the wall, forechecker is all over him, before he can do much more than chip it out. The trouble is, when the forward is in motion, the defenseman is missing him altogether.

I am fine with them not playing Akeson -- you don't want to play the guy, then don't play the guy

But don't just have him sitting there doing nothing -- I remember Bob Clarke used to hate that poop when he was the GM. If you don't want to use a guy, Clarke would move you

He'd give you a chance somewhere else and just move the (frank) on

The Flyers don't have to play Akeson. But move the (frank) on and get somebody in here who the coach will play

Or the defenseman send him a bouncing puck
