Agree, the Flyers thought they were trading from a position of strength with the number of forwards they had and they needed D help, the injuries to the D along the way have only magnified the difference in these two players... |

And I'll admit, I was a big proponent of that trade. I was so fed up with JvR gliding around, being soft, just seemingly not developing at all. Of course, the season after they trade him, he blossoms.. all the while, Schenn has worn my patience pretty thin with his lack of progression.. |

5 Braydon Coburn - 55 Nick Schultz
8 Nicklas Grossmann - 32 Mark Streit
15 Michael Del Zotto - 47 Andrew MacDonald
Wouldn't they put MDZ and Coburn back together and have Coburn on his usual right side? - Feanor
Thought the same but I wasn't in Voorhees yesterday.Word was these were the lines. |

not really though.. Pretty much anyone with half of a brain thought it was a pretty stupid trade. |

All of that is a complete fallacy. His rookie year he put up 35 points on the third line at 20 years old. His second year he started slow, but over his next 80 games as a Flyer he had over 30 goals and close to 30 assists (playoffs included). As a 2nd/3rd year player putting up nearly 60 points in a "seasons worth of games".. that is 1st line material. His third year as a Flyer (and final) was injury plagued, but he still managed to score at a 40 point clip, without ever really getting top minutes.
If they were dead set on trading (as it seemed), then at least get a dynamic player in return. Schenn's type of d-man is not the type you pay a premium for in the NHL. |

Schenn is already staying at wing, and Berube has slid Lecavalier to RW to fit in Laughton. Bellemare has loads of international experience on both wings. I doubt that the overabundance changes, as Hextall agrees with the philosophy that it's easier for a center to slide to wing than vice versa.
If Laughton continues to play as he has so far, he's not going anywhere - Jsaquella

i think laughton's going to stick. raffl comes back. and maybe, just maybe some of the dead wood starts to come alive a little bit.
still need some help on the back end though. |

I'm more worried about the future. I'd love to clear some dead wood, and there's nobody trading defense cheaply enough for the Flyers to take advantage of it. |

Considering you start your whole retort by calling my view "fallacy", I'm not even going to bother with much of my time responding.. Also considering I was speaking mostly of work ethic, and not offensive production on the stat sheet. Maybe you need to watch a few games again and tell me again how he didn't get b***h-owned in the crease whenever he got close... or how many times he skated so hard after pucks.. or how he wasn't constantly punished physically by smaller built players...
And how can you say for sure Schenn wouldn't be a dynamic D-man? He was what, 22 at the time? Stuck in Toronto for the entirety of his baby career... I don't blame them for making the deal... it just ended up benefiting Toronto way more than it has Philly at this point... it is what it is.. But maybe if JvR showed that WORK ETHIC he magically gained when going to Toronto, when he was in Philly, he'd still be in orange and black today. |

Funny thing is I still read toronto fans where they say JVR is frustrating because for all the talent there are still games he is invisable and just coasting.
I think the Schenn trade was hope that he would be the physical dman yuo need come playoff time. He was one of our better dmen and was only legit defender when we had all those injuries. He just has too many stretches where he makes bad reads or plays. Also I do think a little of it was to try and get Brayden some comfort here in philly. |

I don't know many 20-22 year olds with great work ethic. I'm 26 and have a terrible work ethic. Look, I'm on hockeybuzz while I should be working |

He doesn't all the time! A lot of games you wouldn't know he was on the ice and then all of a sudden BAM, he looks really good! I don't anticipate seeing him past the end of his contract in blue and white. Just call it a feeling! |

That's a nice objective viewpoint. Surely the Flyers didn't think they were getting the player that Luke Schenn is now. They thought they were getting a defenseman that would grow and blossom with a change of scenery. That's the female dog about potential. Doesn't always work out.
Can't argue that a lack of impatience, and giving up on JVR was part of the reason why they made that deal. And that may be the biggest mistake that they made. |

I have not seen anything in Hamburglar. He just looks too slow and maybe his body is in the correct position his reaction times are just slow and it looks lazy.
I don't like Rinaldo on PK either but at least it looks like he is hustling and moving his feet - 3flyerkids
Corpseburger is the worst forward 5 v 5. I just think his pk has been ok. And he's almost always in the right spot if he can get there on time

Vancouver lost Hamhuis for some time. Looks like another team needing a defenseman.
Can Coburn get us a packge with one of Virtanen, McCann, Shinkaruk and picks or Kassian - J35Bacher
Don't think Vancouver will make a panic trade like that. Doubt they expect to contend this year. They'll hold onto youngsters |
