Does anyone else think that if Laughton can fire up VL he may do good things for Read and/or Simmonds? Just a thought. I'd like to see either of those guys with him. Just me. |

I believe that Hextall thinks this team can make the playoffs. And if he does, I agree with him. - MJL
A little early in the day to be drinking, isn't it? |

Considering how well he is looking on his line basically shouldering the weight of VL and Umby, and how he is making them look alive a little bit, I would love to see that! |

Never too early!
Anyway, I'm fully expecting today to be Flyers suck day, and such and such a player sucks day. And on and on. |

Good idea, IMO!
When Raffl comes back, I'd try:
Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Couturier-Simmonds
Bellemare-Laughton-Read
VDV-VLC-Rinaldo
Yeah, Umberger would be in the press box! |

I would not trade Coburn in full or in part for a LW. I also wouldn't trade him for a 2nd and a prospect, unless it was a dam good top prospect. Coburn is too valuable to the Flyers. - MJL
Would you trade him in a box? Or with a fox? |

Kidding aside.. I do think they could very likely be a playoff team... however, if they make it in, I don't see them making it past the first round. The depth just isn't there... |

It seems that Snider has bought into the patient approach that Hextall is using from things he has said and after seeing that was essentially how LA and Chicago built their team. - NickTheKid87
I understand the philosophy behind being patient, however those two teams, along with the Penqueens, were absolutely awful hockey teams for years to get the high end picks that have made their teams so good. The Flyers are never (outside of 06-07) bad enough to draft in the top few picks to really make their roster that much better than it is. Even when they drafted JVR 2nd overall, it was a huge drop off between him and Kane. |

He's worth a first round pick.
Even then I think there is a very good debate that they should not trade him even if they could get full value in return (a first round pick). |

We already have one of the top 10 forwards in the league and a guy to build a team around in Giroux plus Voracek is emerging as another superstar. Add in Simmonds, Read, Couturier and BSchenn and you have a good place to start building the team. If Ghost, Sanheim, Morin and/or Hagg can turn into top 4 dmen, we'll be in a much better place. Mason is good enough to be our starter too. |

By the time the Flyers are a contender, they will have needed to sign Coburn to a new deal for him to still be here. Since I have no interested in re-signing a 32 year old Coburn to a long term deal with a cap hit north of 6 million, I would absolutely look to move him at the deadline, especially if they can get a 1st.

It would also depend on how high of a first round pick. |

I don't share in your view that trading Coburn is a good move, or that they should trade him because you feel he would get a good return. Also wouldn't trade him for a scoring winger. - MJL
What is Brayden Coburns value to a non-playoff team?

Don't know for a fact that it would be a cap hit north of 6M. And 32 isn't that old. |

Those who may have interest in him that want to make a run may not be a top 10 pick but it's still something I'd personally consider.
That being said I wouldn't move him for just a 1st round pick I'd want at least another pick (can be a mid round pick & even in a different year) and player |

I think they can get a 1st in 2015 and maybe a 3rd in 2016 from a contender. I would make that deal. |

I agree that a 1st round pick would definitely be worth trading him for, especially with the upcoming draft class.
To me Coburn's best assets are his size and his speed. His speed is only going to begin to decline and he has always been streaky in using his size to his advantage. Once he starts to lose his legs, do you really think he has the defensize acumen and vision to continue to be effective? Don't get me wrong, I think he has been effective for the Flyers and would continue to do so for at least a couple more years, I just think he's our best bargaining chip to continue to bolster other holes in our roster. |

It would certainly be something that would peak my interest, a prospect that has some value would have to be attached.......it wouldn't be a top on in some system but could still be a decent one. |

I'm gonna make an unpopular comment. There are a lot of guys who need to step up. Most notably Lecavalier and Umberger, who I feel have look better with Laughton in between them. With this said, Bellemare has shown me that he's good enough to play every night but hasn't shown me that he's good enough to take on a significant role yet. Could he be a third line shutdown center? - SuperSchennBros
Unpopular? 90% of this board has been clamoring for VL and Umberger to get bumped to the 4th-line. We're with ya, bro!

If I could get a good NHL ready young defenseman for Coburn, I would consider dealing him. I would not trade him for a first round pick, unless it was a high first round pick, say in the top 12. Which I don't think you would get. |

I think Umberger would work well with Laughton & if they can add some scoring punch to that line it could be solid. |

It's why I'd be more looking for a package deal. But that is even a long way off from being a realistic topic. |
