It's so nice to look at the standings. I find myself doing it multiple times a day. 3rd in the conference and on the rise - Cptmjl
It's great! Last year they didn't break 30 points until December 29th which was the 40th game. |

This is the point I made back then. The Isles were lousy and had no one better. Nino should have been on the 1st line with JT. Nino was a baby, but he was not handled correctly. - ses111
I not sure about 1st line, would of been nice to earn that promotion, but start at 3rd line and progressively move up....

Yes you could, word is they first knew in the morning, Bport was off today, so you call in the morning and have them get on that boat that docks outside the rink 1 hr 30 to port jeff and and 1 hr 30 to the col. if you call at noon they are there by 4 - Sec111
Assuming you knew at that time that deHaan/Hickey couldn't go that night.
And you have to send Strait and Donovan down to make room. And then call them back up and send the young guy(s) down again.
It's absurd. They can play a game or two, it's not the end of the world. |

we got through the game despite strait. That's a pretty important distinction. - Isles_since_6
I think a good way to put it for me is i think strait is god awful but id rather not disrupt anything with bdgpt and the kids development unless we have too. Strait could have killed us yesterday. Came close a couple times but I love the idea of not rushing these kids. |

Also, no need to spread whatever AIDS may be floating around the Isles locker room right now to Bridgeport |

Are you guys really Bailey Bashing? he has been stellar. that Line of him neilsen and Grabovski has been brilliant possession line and has actually be matched up to defense against opposing teams top lines. Bailey had great redirect that I don't know how mason saved it.
The reality is Kumelin is far better than advertised and Grabner is now odd man out. If you ask me unless some gets hurt. IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT TRY TO FIX IT.
Move Grabner as he has high trade value. |

hey guess what boys, sure Strait sucks but we played without 2 starting dman and got a shutout.
Lets just say it. Islanders right now are playing like the best Team in NHL. Halak has 7 straight wins and 3 shutouts. We are 6-0 in OT. KO, JT and Tavares are just filthy on shootouts.
We are rolling 4 lines out and we are dominating 3rd periods.
This is the franchise best start ever. Let hope keep at it.

Philly scored zero goals. Is Strait a good defenseman? Hell no, but this team is good enough to make up for his lack of skill and still win games. Pulling a kid out of Bridgeport to hustle his ass to the Island to play one or two games is silly. You would have had to put Strait on waivers and send Donovan down just to bring two guys up and then send them back down and recall Strait and Donovan? That's nonsense. They are the extra defenseman for a reason and we used them as such. - eichiefs9
Because Halak played great... in other words DESPITE that bum Strait. I find it amazing that the same guys who were ecstatic Moulson was gone b/c he was terribble in defensive zone are OK with a D-man being horrific and almost costing us a game we won in a shootout. This was a division rival .. and if you thing they were not aware Hickey and deHaan were sick till 5 pm that is a riot too. Strait should not play on this taam anymore... period. |

They couldn't make a call because if their roster space and you aren't getting someone from bport to Long Island in an hour at 5p. Bport to Long Island at 5p on a Monday is a 2 to 3 hour drive with traffic.. Guys got sick.. Strait got us through the game - Dan Petriw

I almost lost my shat when overtime started and Strait fell flat on his ass on the faceoff and Philly spent the next 40 seconds humming in the zone. - brodydog29

Maybe not X. Still had more promise than most guys on the team. I would have put him on JT's line at least for a little while and you could have always moved him to another line if it was not working out. What's done is done. Isles seemed to have recovered nicely now. |

Good god some people just don't want to be happy. A substitute defenseman substituted for a sick player. I don't see the issue. If Capuano stuck deHaan in the press box to give Strait a go, then sure, I'm right there with you. But if you really think that we were going to waive two players, and exposing Donovan to waivers carries a large inherent risk of him getting claimed, to send them to Bridgeport to call up two young guys at the last minute to play one, maybe two games, just to make them go back to Bridgeport and recall the original two guys...then...I don't even know what to say. It's nonsensical and asinine. Strait can play one game here and there without the sky falling. |

Huh, I get all that, I'm still wondering how Halak isn't an Islander goalie because he wasn't drafted by them.

The problem was with Brock, Strome, and Lee he wasn't the best prospect despite what he thought. Even now He would not be on the top line on this team.. and he is not on the top line in Minn. He is clearly benefitting from having Vanek on his line but for this team ... right now... where would u put him? |

no doubt i would rather he was still here, love Clutterbuck but we could have had him for a lot less.
Nino is a first line talent, but he wasn't when he was here, he was told to work on areas of his game by the staff (his defensive coverage) and he either couldn't grasp it or wouldn't try. Either way, you EARN the first line, something he never did.
He shouldn't have even been in the NHL to begin with, he should have developed in the AHL for a couple seasons. His speaking out against the way he was being handled was a bad move on his camps part, but ultimately he was handled wrong, weather it was Snow's fault trying to minimize payroll, or Wang's fault making him do so.. it was still a cluster*&k by upper management.
