Yeah, that first post was pretty roll-like, hence my reply.
As for Eakins, I don't believe many support him, but we also understand that MacT is keeping him. There's a chance that Eakins may be relieved in the offseason, but that is doubtful.
There are many flaws with Eakins deployment. Yakupov's retained ice time regardless of his improvement and positive results. The high icetime for both Nikitin and Jultz even though Petry and Fayne are better dmen and provide better results. there are others.
We aren't happy, but we know there's no change coming in regards to Eakins. But, changing out Eakins isn't going to provide an immediate result. - ChetManly
I don't think anybody can say a different coach wouldn't get an immediate result or not. I doubt there are many coaches that could do any worse however. |

So are you saying that the current management regime has a hard time properly evaluating their own management team? After 15 years of poop goaltending?
Why now? Timing seems off. Not one of you has answered this question. Why wasn't this done in the off season? Was the last 20 games the final straw? The timing just seems really strange but we are talking about oil management here.

Yeah no doubt.
And as much as it looks like I'm trolling, I am actually trying to see if the HB Oilers fans like what Eakins is doing out there. - moondawg
Yeah. It's hard to say. I know I'm not breaking any news here but, they obviously have to step back and take a big look at things and move players. Easier said than done. I think the first thing is for them to see this will take a few years. Not what the fans want to here, but don't rush.anything and (frank) this up even more. Leafs have done this for years.
I'd say, although unpopular, trade RNH for a proper dman. Whether that deal is out there I do not know. There will be a team out there.
Replace him with McDavid/Eichel. Abit further ahead centre wise (imo). Further ahead on D.
trade Eberle, who is a smallish perimeter player suited to the East.
Keep Hall. Keep LD. But send him somewhere.
Again, not a quick fix, but what's the alternative? Being the Leafs hasn't paid off. The sooner they see the rebuld went wrong and start again the better (again my opinion)

A few players and MacT as well identified that the results aren't Eakin's faults. However, it was identified a while ago that Chabot has had no positive outcomes with this involvement of the goaltending. - ChetManly

and klowe has had no positive outcomes governing this team

Look at the difference between Torts and Willie (canucks). One could argue that torts had a better roster to work with. Willie is a better coach and it is showing right now.
A coaching change can make a huge difference. |

Hate to say it, but this is close to what should be done.
MacT's time here has been a mess of poor acquisitions, overpayments, and bad judge of talent.
KLowe is the handler of all and ultimately needs to be shown the door.
Eakins has been discussed enough by me, you know what I think, not that it matters.

It all depends on the huge move is. If they are going to fire the maintenance crew next then yes it's still bullpoop. If MacT and Lowe are gone next then the Chabot firing is not a complete waste of time. - bloatedmosquito
So if your evaluation of the Chabot firing is entirely dependent on the other big moves the oilers make or don't make, isn't that a great indication your frustrations towards the move are misplaced? |

As I said, no it won't in the short term, but in the long term, personally I think it might. You'd get a good haul. No.1 dman?
I don't see a way to get that much better, specially in the West, by offering up Perron, Purcell, Poulliot, Fayne , Schultz et.al.
I think the management team need to reali the rebuild (frank)ed up. And that's fine, if they do something about it. Obviously it's gonna piss the fans off.
The other thing that could happen is you could be the Leafs of the West with no cup in our lifetime (from here on out) because it's a vicious cycle |

It sounds like your assuming Chabot has been here for 15 years, it's been 6.
To answer your question as to why not in the off season. What indications were there that Scriven and Fasth would regress from 0.914 and 0.916 save percentage last year to sub .895 this year? During the off season there was no reason to believe our goal tending was going to be this bad and thus no reason to fire the goal tending coach.
Dubnyk went .889, 0.916, 0.914, 0.920 and then went 0.894 last year. He has 3 really decent years after his rookie season there was no reason for us to believe that we also was going to go to crap last year.
When you include the regression of three previously decent goalies somebody has to take the blame for that and that guy is Chabot in this case.
