So what's going on his here, the trolls informing us of the problems with the Oilers that we are obviously unaware of? - Jeropotato

I'm not so sure if both would clear waivers to be sent down despite sucking this year. |

Why not? - bloatedmosquito
I think oilers fans are fairly realistic by and large.
Of course opinions can vary, but nobody knows better than us the struggles of our franchise.
The disconnect comes from a few things imo. Outsiders peddling the same tired solutions that they hear from Dreger ET AL.
And that oiler fans have any actual say in the teams makeup. We don't.
The biggest difference between oiler fans is our opinions on the real problem. Which isn't surprising as theyre probably pretty deep as well as numerous. But anyone who pinpoints it on one thing like coaching or Lowe may very well be right. But it's no slam dunk by any means
I don't think we bury our heads in the sand if that's what ur implying.
Selling low is not the ultimate answer to our woes and the haters shouldnt waste their times trying to convince us it is |

You make some good points so let me address each:
1. Outsiders peddling the same tired solutions that they hear from Dreger ET AL.
But these tired solutions haven't been tried yet. The same people have been driving this boat for years now with no improvement in sight. An organization can keep on firing fringe managers, positional coaches, and team trainers with no evidence of improvement. Maybe it's time to listen to these 'outsiders'.
2. And that oiler fans have any actual say in the teams makeup. We don't.
I think you're wrong here. fans do have a say. If 12,000 fans showed up to a Saturday night game the owner would start to listen. But the sheep keep coming to the games so why change a thing.
3. the haters shouldnt waste their times trying to convince us
We are not haters. We all remember the great oiler days. There's been nothing like it since. Who doesn't want that again. I think people are generally concerned and want to provide their thoughts and maybe a solution. The last time I checked hockey discussion was acceptable on this site. |

No. The problems the oil have is systemic. It's not just one person or position that has created this huge pile of dung; it's an entire system at fault. The ones who created this situation have to take the fall, not some fringe manager or positional coach. The treatment needs to start top-down. - bloatedmosquito
This is where we disagree.
Everyone who sucks at their job should go, and you can very reasonably level criticisms at them for those who suck at their job but don't get fired.
But if we're talking about results, Chabot sucked at his job and he was fired. The order that happened in seems irrelevant to me. |

I think it's kind of funny how minor but useful moves like Chabot are considered an empty, figurative, BS gesture.
Lowe is a figurehead in the organization. You can't get more figurative then firing that position. It might be a useful one in terms of changing the face/culture of the franchise, but it's still PR too. |

People often offer purely researched, implausible or completely nonsensical thoughts. Then, when challenged in even the least, the common retort is "well fine! you guyz must be in love with losing. enjoy statying in the basiment untill everyone leaves bc Edmonton is a hole."
It is in that context that you're coming to discuss hockey. So there's bound to be an oil fan or two that has their guard up.
I like to discuss reasonable ideas for improving the oilers. In fact, if anyone's ragging on an outside poster making a reasonable point, I usually tear into them. |

I think some fan's,media etc don't take this move in a positive way because the replacement is a Goalie Coach without NHL experience,I don't mind the move but I would have prefer the other more. |

Yes, of course. Just like hiring Trevor Linden. WTF was that? Complete PR move.
But he has been the only constant during the years of brutality. If he is the only constant then how the hell does he get a free pass? |

I've really come around to the fact that he should be relieved of his duties for this reason.
There's a great argument that if he does have his hands on the oilers, he deserves to be fired. If he doesn't have his hand on the oilers, then there's no harm in firing him.
I just think people are going to keep saying "Great. THAT move will solve everything "until we start winning. And I think a lot of that will have to do with the roster acquisitions going forward as opposed to the guy who decides whether the new arena has a Subway or a Quiznos |

Pardon me? lol
The wealthiest people I know are the most frugal and smartest with their money.
"Poor people are the only ones who buy things on sale" is a comment made by those that are not financially secure. |

I bet all the stupid Oilers fans were well educated by the intelligent fans of the other NHL teams. Maybe after all the tongue lashings that were handed out today all of the fans will stop running this team into the ground. |

You, the guy who has railing for weeks that NO MATTER WHO WE GOT to replace Eakins we'd be better off is worried about a goalie coach's experience? |

maybe the Oilers fans on here are intelligent but I live in the Edmonton area and it boggles the mind how many people still think they are on the cusp of being a contender, so many young stars, ect.
can't trade this guy, can't trade that guy...really?
2 months with no wins in your own conference anybody should be available...isn't this the worst season in franchise history so far? |

I think the issue is that this is the only move so far...GC as the scapegoat and perpetuating the Oilers issues are solely due to goal tending |
