maybe the Oilers fans on here are intelligent but I live in the Edmonton area and it boggles the mind how many people still think they are on the cusp of being a contender, so many young stars, ect.

I'm with you on that, I merely suggested that by trading Hall we could fill a lot of holes . And although an internal fill like David Perron doesn't fill the hole left by Hall, we can absorb that better than we can the other current holes.

I think the issue is that this is the only move so far...GC as the scapegoat and perpetuating the Oilers issues are solely due to goal tending

that criticism makes no sense to me. We're less than 48 hours from an eye-opening drubbing.

If no change beyond goalie happens, I'll criticize the heck out of it. But neither did anyone contend that it was the only problem, nor did they contend no more moves are coming. Quite the opposite in fact.

Any more than the fact that I've only ate breakfast today indicates that I have no intention to do more eating for the forseeable future.

Everyone seems to think that was a dumb move because it doesn't make us a playoff team. With the issues we have that is hopefully just the start with more to come.

i still can't believe the people that realistically think the oilers would be so much better if we kept kreuger. The oilers rode an unsustainably high scoring percentage on the powerplay and got really good goaltending. Once these started to regress to league average and worse the team imploded down the stretch and ended up picking 6th. over an 82 game season we likely would have finished bottom 3 again.

i am not saying this to defend eakins, who isn't getting the job done, but to demonstrate that kreuger was not the savior. The underlying numbers for the oilers are better this year, but they are still not getting the wins. If the goalies regress to league average goaltending the oilers will be a better team. not a playoff team, but one closer to the 10 spot in the west which is the marketed improvement we expected.

Would a new coach help? probably, but how much of that is directly tied to the coach, and how much is tied to goaltending approaching league average.

Or you know, with the amount of skilled players we had, our PP might have just been sustainable. 1 year? maybe a fluke, 2 years? looking a lot more likely that it wasn't a fluke.

i love the argument ppl use for the Power play being unsustainble, and that we get more shots on the power play under Eakins. (frank)ing brain dead argument, because everyone knows it's not how many goals you score on the PP, it's about how many shots you take


For the bolded, we ended up picking 7th actually, and Nuge's injury and other key injuries had a lot to do with the "imploding". Also, over an 82 game season we would likely have made it into the playoffs, or just out, when you add in the Eastern conference games. just a weak, weak arugment all around.

I've really come around to the fact that he should be relieved of his duties for this reason.

There's a great argument that if he does have his hands on the oilers, he deserves to be fired. If he doesn't have his hand on the oilers, then there's no harm in firing him.

I just think people are going to keep saying "Great. THAT move will solve everything "until we start winning. And I think a lot of that will have to do with the roster acquisitions going forward as opposed to the guy who decides whether the new arena has a Subway or a Quiznos

I don't really care if they get rid of Lowe. If they do then fine. He made some dumb comments through the years. But he did some things well.

I like you don't think getting rid of him will make a difference. Its up to Katz. Get rid of him if you have a different guy in mind. Doesn't matter to me.
