I think the Oilers organization has taken stupidity to a whole new level. Good luck with this brilliant move and trading Perron....WOW!! - FlamesNOTLames
No no no, according to that Hurricanes fan, the Oilers are smart for making their team terrible. The Flames are so stupid for figuring out how to be successful.
The Oilers are better than the Flames and that's the god damn truth!! |

I am an Oiler fan in Halifax, but I am pretty closeted about that fact, plus I watch a lot of the east coast teams because of the time change...

If a percentage inflated record is "figuring out how to be successful", then it's a shame the 2013 Leafs and 2014 Avs have forgot it. |

Making the playoffs when you're supposedly year 2 into a rebuild is definitely success in my book. The Flames have tons of young talent that might not have as high ceilings as the players that you have but the thing is that a ceiling a player has is far from guaranteed. So Monahan could develop into a better player than RNH and Gaudreau into a better player than Yakupov despite their respective draft positions. Add in Gio and Brodie who are bonafide top-pairing defensemen, who you have been trying to draft for years and failed (so you know how difficult it is to get one let alone 2) and the signing of Hiller (a position where you again, have failed multiple times to address over multiple years) and it's easy to see how the Flames have a much more admirable roster than the Oilers. |

Yeah I'm in the same boat. When you share it with people, they start lecturing you on what they'd do to fix the oilers.
My GF is a leafs fan, so no shortage of misery among the other teams I watch. |

Oilers are a huge mess and the season is basically over so might as well join the McDavid sweepstakes because that kid is supposed to be the best thing to come up since Crosby.
Stumble along until February and then hang the For Sale sign on any or all of Hall, Eberle, RNH and Yak for the highest bidders to climb over themselves with offers. The Oilers could pull plenty with those guys out there - some seasoned defenceman, good kids playing in the minors, draft picks. And then the following year go after a guy like Brent Seabrook with a massive free agent offer to be their captain and show the kids something about winning. - RickJ
Ok, well let's see. I agree that we're toast this year but such radical change should only occur if Katz cleans house, from Lowe on down (he can keep Nicholson). Give a new, experienced GM full licence. At this point they only guy I'd protect is Nuge & Draisaitl. We need to re-balance this team but we don't need any more draft picks coming back.
Also, I'd love to be able to get Seabrook as he's a huge leader on your Team |

Don't forget that the Cape Breton Oilers won the Calder Cup in the early 90's, so there are some Oiler Fans in your neck of the woods. |

That still makes me chuckle
What if the Oilers started their own hockey league right now with now limits on draft age eligibility? Sign Hanifin, McDavid, and Eichel. Wait for the league to fold (hire K.Lowe to manage the league shouldn't take long). Beg to be let back in the NHL (with all that star power under contract you'd have them by the balls). Then, BANG rebuild over!! Plan the parade route for another 5 stanley cups (at least) |

I love when fans of other teams try to beak the oilers management with stupid solutions " They are so stupid guyz! Why dont they just trade eberle for weber and yak and first over all for malkin, problemz solved yo!" Anybody who thinks MacT isnt making calls or trying to get a trade done is stupid. The fact nothing has been done doesnt mean hes not trying. Id rather him not deal then trade eberle, yak and our first for Yandle which is probably the only type of calls hes getting from other teams. - benmacw
When you're getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars you don't earn that by 'trying'. You get paid that much for 'doing'.
Holy (frank), you must be a fan of the participation award in sports. |

Just tired of some Oilers fans "not trading Yakupov for anything less than a Shea Weber" attitude. |

Chabot had major roles in drafting Tyler Bunz and Olivier Roy and where are they, no where close to being even an AHL goalie, none of there goalies have ever shown signs of improving, they have all regressed. Look at Dubnyk, could never make that next step under Chabot.
Also, rumor around the league among teams scouting the Oilers all say they have them playing to deep in the net, which makes sense, how many goals do they get a piece of and go in top shelf, come out more and that shot isn't there. Look at the last two games and see how often they got beat high, if they are out challenging more that shot is a lot tougher to make. |

I don't doubt he's making calls, and frankly fielding calls for bad deals where we're supposed to overpay because we're desperate.
I just hope he's not passing on deals where we marginally lose on value long term but it would provide a solid platform to move forward and get some confidence going.
Seems to me that if the team gets better, we may not win the trade, but we certainly don't lose it. - Morris

If we could have got him for a 7th overall I'd agree.
The asking price being over twice as much by all reports seems like a bridge too far... |

I dunno if Chabot is at all to blame for Scrivens' particularly bad start to the year in terms of handling the puck, but you can tell teams have dumped it to try to get him to handle it as much as possible. |

I have yet to see any names mentioned. Only thing I've seen printed is that the asking price "was too high". What was it? |

Here's two tweets from around that time:
Told asking price for Schneider to Oilers was the 7, a 2nd and a good young player. High price to trade within division, Oil passed.
— Ryan Rishaug (@TSNRyanRishaug) June 30, 2013
All right you tweeps anybody really dismayed that the Oilers didn’t bite on Schneider given the ask was #7, a top prospect, plus? Not Me!
— Bob Stauffer (@Bob_Stauffer) July 1, 2013
Names I remember being speculated as a "good young player" included Marincin and Klefbom, Gagner and Petry, and Omark. Paajarvi was traded 10 days later, so he was likely in the discussion.
Also heard they wanted two 2nds. |
