In my opinion, VLC and Umberger should be exiled to Siberia...or Edmonton

Put em both on line for and have the ultimate black hole out there for 5 minutes.

3 relevant lines and 1 horrendous one that plays 5 minutes is worth it compared to the alternative.

- Giroux_Is_God

I'm voting for having Rinaldo run both of them during practice.

Coming out 0-0 in regulation against a really good Islanders team coming off back to back victories against the Pens is definitely a small victory, we just didn't walk away with two points. Keeping John Tavares in check isn't playing well? We can give the easy response by saying Mason stole the game for us and he did but Coburn was also shadowed Tavares all evening, which for me was fun to watch. They just needed to cut down on the penalties and make sure they clear the zone. If you clear the zone when your suppose to, all those pressure situations the Islanders have, the Islanders do not look as dangerous as they did nearing the end of the game.
- SuperSchennBros

I think you've made a lot of great points lately, but I can't go along with you on this one. The only Flyer who stopped anyone on the Islanders was Mason. Taveras or any other Islander wasn't kept in check. It was a free for all on the Flyers net. Flyers not only got a super human performance from Mason, but they also got incredibly lucky. Pucks hitting posts, or plays that normally would've been a sure goal bounced off an Islander stick. I was wondering what Flyer played that game with a horsehoe up his ass. If that same game was played again, the Flyers would lose it 99 out of 100. They were annihilated in every manner except by the score.

According to this, the Flyers have made call to kick tires on Chris Stewart.

He could play with Vinny and Umberger so that I can shoot myself after the first

The Isles dominated the game. The only reason Tavares & the Isles were held in check was Steve Mason.
- Jsaquella

Mason was the number one star but there many solid defensive efforts by the team in front of him. It isn't as if the Flyers spent the entire hemmed into their own end. We had many chances going th err other way.

yeah. that is a tough choice.

do you leave them on one line and create an ultimate black hole.

or do you split them up and potentially risk dragging down 1/3 of two lines.

- stayinthefnnet

I think Umberger would be fine on the 4th line. He's playing with Read and Couturier tonight, who are also struggling offensively. So not crazy about that line. Although I love the potential of Raffl/Laughton/Simmonds. With the pieces that the Flyers have, there's going to be a problem area somewhere.

With Raffl back, I'd like to see:

Schenn-Giroux-Voracek
Raffl-Laughton-Simmonds
Bellemare-Couturier-Read
Rinaldo-VLC-Akeson

I would also like to see Umberger announcing his immediate retirement.

Now switch Umberger and Akeson

i'd definitely look at chris stewart we have too many soft players and he could fill that gap decently on the 2nd/3rd line how about read for him?

Did you watch the game?

We were out shot something like 45-20 or there about. The Isles clearly dominated in all three zones for most of the game. If Mason had only been good, they lose 4 or 5 to nothing.

I agree, but I think the even better option is to hide their sorry asses on the 4th line. Playing them together for 5 minutes each night is better than playing them for 10 each split up
- Giroux_Is_God

I think the better scenario is to find a combination that gets Lecavalier going offensively. And for Umberger to play on the 4th line. That's just a difficult task.

I seem to remember Vinny playing well on the fourth line last season

I thought they possessed the puck well but I thought I saw a lot of long rage shots. Clearly there waa a clinic in shots but I didn't see a lot of quality. Weren't we the better faceoff team, especially in the first half of the game? I only felt truly worried when Streit and MacDonald couldn't get off the ice for an extended period of time.

I don't think Vinny is necessarily a black hole. I do think Umberger is though, at least right now.
- ManCity

i think when you consider all of the variables in their totality, he is a negative asset.

however, i do admit that he isnt the black hole that umberger is. i think umberger, for whatever reason, seems to be beyond all help.

i think vinny may still have some redeemable qualities, it will just require a lot of propping up in order to utilize them. then at what point does that cost benefit analysis tip in the balance of it just not being worth it?

They spent the large majority of the game in their own end, were badly outplayed, outshot and outchanced. The Islanders dominated the Flyers. The Flyers played like raw sewage.
