C$ dropped big time today, nearly $.0075. And it will continue to drop as long as the oil prices fall. Cap next year is going down. Flyers have big troubles next year. They have to move players not named LaCavalier, Luke Schenn and Umberger just to get to opening day. - spatso
When that happens, then we'll worry about it -- but they can easily buy out Umberger if they choose to do so, and Schenn can be traded
Deryk Engelland got a multiyear contract. Someone will take Luke Schenn, if that's what the Flyers choose to do

Somebody other then Giroux or Voracek has to step up. And state with their play that enough is enough. With the situation the way it is, the Flyers should be a team that comes out today and plays like their life depends on it. They've had the reaming out from the GM, coach calling them out, player only meeting. It's just time to play. Show some balls and come out and fight to win. - MJL
3-0. Set up to fail. failing like a champ. |

It's a ridiculous premise to state that Berube doesn't have the balls to scratch Umberger. He may not choose to, but it's not because he doesn't have the balls. Let's be real here. - MJL

Patrick Roy scratched Daniel Briere. No one can tell me that Craig Berube can't scratch R.J. Umberger
One of those guys has a big set of brass ones
The other one is Craig Berube - AllInForFlyers
And this has to be questioned.

The only ridiculous premise ever floated about R.J. Umberger was that he was going to "play through it"

They could; Lecavalier's buyout is a lot uglier than Umberger's, but you're eating cash either way
Sometimes, you have to approach it as losing deadweight on the roster is more important than having dead cash on the cap
Whatever money you save on the cap, however small it is, is better than having players who clearly cannot play on the roster -- right now, the Flyers have $8.1 million doing absolutely nothing for this team - AllInForFlyers

The cap is not going down. The League will take in record revenue again this season, and the cap will rise. In the history of the NHL salary cap, it has gone down once. And that was when it was artificially lowered to 64.3M coming out of the lockout.

Both Lecavalier and Umberger's icetime is getting lower and lower each game. While players like Laughton is getting higher.

Tampa got a third for Brewer. Flyers need to start doing that kind of stuff.

I think you need to pay closer attention. In the last game against Detroit he was double shifting two lines. Listening on the radio, at times in the game today he double shifted the Laughton line.
Just looking at the shift charts for the games, shows how incorrect you are on this. Giroux is leading the NHL in time on ice per game for forwards. - MJL
I do pay attention. I like Rinaldo but there are times during the game when he should not be on the ice and he is. As for the Detroit game maybe I missed the double shifting because after watching the lack of effort in the game I stopped watching and don't something more productive. If you wanna stay on the Berube band wagon... By all means have at it. He's doing awesome and the team is playing awesome in front of him. |

Nothing to do with being on the Berube bandwagon. It has to do with looking at the facts, versus inventing criticism. Rinaldo averages 8:30 a game in ice time.

I'd be trying to trade Mcdonald. Not saying he is bad at all. I just don't see how he makes a difference in the next 5 years....I believe one og Couts and L Schenn will be traded this year. Luke will end up a fixture on the back end for years to come. Hate to say this but VLV and UMBY are here until they decide to retire... |

Agree, but if Briere can be scratched, why can't Lecavlier?
They had bigger problems today, (more so than one, or 2, or 3 players mentioned), but it would be a start.
I know a buyout would be too expensive, but continuing to play, & hold on to certain guys isn't helping you fill holes in other areas when your capped out. |

would you take a 3rd for Luke Schenn right now?
definition of selling low I think, but likely close to what they could get for him |
