I'd be trying to trade Mcdonald. Not saying he is bad at all. I just don't see how he makes a difference in the next 5 years....I believe one og Couts and L Schenn will be traded this year. Luke will end up a fixture on the back end for years to come. Hate to say this but VLV and UMBY are here until they decide to retire...

Both Lecavalier and Umberger's icetime is getting lower and lower each game. While players like Laughton is getting higher.
- MJL

It's a start, and that's promising

I don't necessarily want Berube to get gassed, because I do agree with certain tenets of how he approaches hockey. I don't mind his on-ice systems. I think he understands winning hockey

But if the hill he chooses to die on is playing Umberger and, to a lesser degree, Lecavalier, then his demise is of his own doing

I understand he can't address both at the same time, because you still have to play games. But you can damn sure address one or the other

would you take a 3rd for Luke Schenn right now?

definition of selling low I think, but likely close to what they could get for him

Agree, but if Briere can be scratched, why can't Lecavlier?

They had bigger problems today, (more so than one, or 2, or 3 players mentioned), but it would be a start.
I know a buyout would be too expensive, but continuing to play & hold on to certain guys isn't helping you fill holes in other areas when your capped out.

- puckhead17

He can be. But who do they play in his place? And the Flyers would be best served if Lecavalier can somehow show that he can still play. Other then Giroux and Voracek, this entire team is in a funk. I don't see Lecavalier being one of the players that will lead them out of it. He just doesn't have the game anymore. He can still score if he gets the chance, but the entire team isn't getting many chances. And he's a big part of why.

That would be a ridiculously bad trade for the Flyers.

The problem is that neither are Umberger and Lecavalier

You've been shut out three times in the last four games

Do that with young players who are learning, not old players who are declining or done like dinner

Nothing to do with being on the Berube bandwagon. It has to do with looking at the facts, versus inventing criticism. Rinaldo averages 8:30 a game in ice time.
- MJL

I think it's fair to criticize Berube. I think it's fair for people to criticize Rinaldo on taking dumb penalties... He did today. The 8 minutes he plays don't matter if there not to his strengths. What he does in those 8 minutes. We know he's not going to score but he can hit and create energy when used properly and IMO Berube does not do that.

At least 2 forwards that can skate, the basics.

I think the management are still holding onto some slim hopes that these guys either start playing better or that they can trade them

both ideas seem delusional to me

When Berube is fired before Christmas, and Laviolette wins the Jack Adams award, I can see the answer a mile away......

Berube on most nights this season, has one line to work with. Two if the newly formed Laughton line is playing well. Giroux is leading all NHL forwards in ice time. Have to play the other lines sometimes.
Lecavalier today played 6:53 of ES ice time out of a 60 minute game. Umberger played 9:46 of ES time and 10:52 total. So please explain to me how Berube is choosing to die on that hill?

Sure it's fair to criticize anybody if it's warranted. But criticize fairly, and based on the factual information. And not based on false perceptions.

You still haven't said how Berube doesn't use him properly.

You bring up only one at a time, see how they adjust. If they play well enough, they stay. If they don't, they go back down and work on the things they need to work on

And it may be that none of what you have can make that adjustment

But it simply isn't crushing Cousins' future to get a few games, or Alderson, or Straka -- you're only taking a look because they can't be worse than Umberger/Lecavalier, take your pick

The fix is in. Tankadelphia. Surprised they're keeping Laughton up. He could be killing pims in Allentown. I love the hopelessness that will be followed by the tears of joy in the first round.

As I said: It's a start. It took him long enough to get there, but now he needs to finish it
