I'd be furious if that happened. Read has had an off year so far, but that would be Upshall esque.

Yeah, persistence is not always a virtue. Maybe the plan was to play those two until they were completely broken, but it was just taking too long.

I think Hextall is smarter then that.

You know what my biggest worry for the team is? We've got some key pieces in their prime (G, Jake, Mase) and I just hope they don't decline too much if it takes say 5 years to craft a Championship level D.. there seems to be a timing mismatch.

I don't watch the Oilers much but Schultz is supposed to be a hot mess in his own end. I've also read a few places that Petry is a solid young Dman.. wonder if he could be pried away.

Kinda got that guy (minus the right hand) already in AMac, DelZotto, Streit...

Still, if we could move Vinny or Umberger in addition to something Edmonton might actually want, it would have to be considered. Schultz's current contract is up after this season, then he's an RFA, so it's not like he's a threat to be dead weight for years to come.

I think what Edmonton wants is Coburn and I think it's foolish to weaken our D even more. best case scenario is the current team gets going and then Hexy can deal from a position of strength at the deadline.. maybe try to fleece a desperate club.

i think it would be hard to get value at this point because all the pieces that are not named G, jake and mason are underperforming. i would wait until the deadline to make moves. i think you have a better idea of what if possible (for the team this year, and as far as needs for potential trade partners) at that time
