Id love to see them cut the cord with VLC.
Whatever it takes, do it.
He is back to playing a wing on the 4th line, and has been moved off the #2 PP.
He is ill suited to playing wing and playing on a 4th line.
I'd rather see Leier or Cousins playing on the 4th line with PEB.
Umberger until they buy him out could play 4th line minutes too.
Past time to move on from Vinnie. - Marc D
Leier looked very good last night. He skates very well, seems to always be in the right position, plays hard and when he had an open shot, he took it and buried it. |

I can also stomach a hard fought loss. However we have not seen that in awhile. Three shutout loses in last 5 games.
Can they be better? If so...how much? Have we overrated guys like Read and Couturier? IMO they have done nothing much.
Say what you want about Hartnell but at least the guy played with heart and brought an edge to his game . The return for him has been a disgrace - 3flyerkids
Sometimes the reality is that only what his happening currently, really matters. And right now, unfortunately, the Read and Couturier tandem is struggling. Both at ES and on the PK. Those two, and their line, was always a strength of the team. They were able to play against top lines, in defensive situations, while driving play towards offensive finishes. While putting up solid point totals at ES, and they anchored a top PK unit. That's not happening right now, and it's a big blow to this team. I personally think that is temporary, and that they'll come around. I think the team as a whole will come around, and start getting back to building towards the future. Will it be too late to make the playoffs? Time will tell.

Somehow, sadly, Umberger was one of the more noticeable players yesterday. At least he threw a nice hit and went (at a speed rivaling that of a crippled snail) to the net. - jmatchett383
Umberger is playing hurt. I am 100% convinced of this.
He had never recovered from whatever back or disc problem he had last year.
Only explanation for his huge and rapid decline.
If I were the GM I'd have the team docs put him on LTIR. |

Get ugly???
Been there for a couple weeks - BiggE
I was down last week for the Minnesota and Columbus game and thought they played hard and competed both games....these last 3 games doesn't look like the same team....so many guys that were being counted on have failed....to me it might take a trade....but who ? You can't give a away Vinny.....Umberger......any D man not named Coburn....a bunch of bad contracts that still have lots of term....tough to make deals when your coming from a position of weakness....no wonder all the talk is between Edmonton and Philly....two bad teams in dire need of change. |

See if he projects to a bottom six guy in the NHL then get him up here.
VLC playing wing on the 4th line vs giving a guy like Leier a shot?
Easy call for me. |

Ok that does it.. " Umberger was one of the more noticeable players"
You know your team is in the shter when that is the case. RJ would be the #3 Centre on my kids team.

That hits the nail on the head....14 and 24 have played awful.....the most alarming is couturier ..... Who knows why.....but with all the other guys that are struggling it really, really sticks out.....as far as the playoffs ? Playoffs? Not with this group.... |

Being from Edmonton and surrounded by Oiler Fans we were throwing out trade proposals last night as both teams are really spinning their wheels
How about Perron and J Schultz for the Schenns. Not sure of cap hits but I think it is pretty close. My Friends were all over that trade. |

I'd love to see us win a game here but I'd be happy to just get a good effort and 1 goal. It's gotten that sad. Last year, what catapulted us to a playoff berth was that solid west coast trip. This year. I really can't see us repeating that and if so, the season will be lost IMO. |

I really want no part of Shultz. If we could get our hands on eberle I'd see what we could do. Prob is they're gonna want Coburn and I can't see us further weakening this d. |

I wonder if they've talked about scratching both umby and lecav and going with a young guy. If the season keeps up like this and were out of it by January then that's the way to go. At that point is say lecav waives his ntc to go anywhere and we'd have to eat half the salary. Even so, have to do it. When Laughton jumps in the lineup and immediately is outperforming he and umby it's telling. |

Eberle makes too much money for that deal to happen straight up, I am not opposed to trading Couturier however if the right deal presented itself. |

Doesn't work like that. They have to medically prove and document that he can't play due to injury. Can't put a player on LTIR because he's playing poorly.

that's sarcasm right? Coburn blows!! weaken this poopty d??? that's fine its sucks anyways. can we please throw in overpaid read too. oh wait, our last place pku nit will suffer. this team just plain out sucks. cap is totally screwed. half this roster is paid completely wrong for their roles. so sick of being a laughing stock. hope hextall trades every crap contract he can. don't care what we get back as long as no long contracts |

Well then it's off the table. I figure Coburn plus something. I think they were trying to swing a trade Coburn for Magnus paajarvi svenson last year. Sometimes the oilers are such a mess I wonder how other gms can evaluate how the talent they have would look on a better team. |

I hope you are right but I just don't see it this year. I guess if there is such a thing as missing the playoffs and it being a positive...this is the year. You are right though..Read and Couturier's play have been a huge blow they have really shown NO offensive threat at all and the PK numbers speak for themselves

Have top put the young players development first. If keeping Leier down in the AHL is the best thing for him, then that's what you do.

I just don't see Philly and EDM being good trading partners.
I mean to make a 'hockey' trade that helps both teams.
Both need a number one defenseman.
Maybe the Flyers could trade a center for a winger.
But really if the Flyers are keeping Couts then they won't get the winger they want.
