Has the League office ever demanded a breathalyzer test to complete a trade call? - Jsaquella
I doubt any trade would have ever gotten done if this were the case. |

What are they going to get with cash right now? - Dkos
You only save 900k or so waiving Umberger. You'd basiaclly be replacing him with an AHLer. |

If he didn't have a 6 year, 30 mil deal in his pocket, you might be right. - 77rams
I think his deal would be a bit of a issue, but not a major roadblock.
He's a solid middle of the pack guy. He's asked to do too much, but the pay check means that's likely to be the case. Most guys making similar cash are top pair guys, or guys who signed big bridge deals based on their potential to be top pair guys. |

Not much. If there is a minor move to be made, then fine make it. But don't give up any assets to bring in a player to replace Umberger.

Most of the Flyer trades in the 70's were made on cocktail napkins. |

MacDonald was an impending UFA. Difficult to find a legitimate top pair defenseman for that kind of money.

I'd take a 2nd and a 3rd back for him. You can keep the throw we gave (Mangene?) as a thank you. |

I'd offer to drive him to any team that gave me a 2nd & 3rd back.
There are 28 defensemen in the entire NHL who carry a higher cap hit than Andrew MacDonald. That's not going to make a lot of GM's eager to acquire his services. |

I think there are forwards out there of the Adam Hall ilk, role players, who can help solidify the last 3 forwards
I'm not saying that player is a game-changer. I think when you have black holes, the first thing you do is bring in an actual NHL contributor and see how the team looks without the black hole in the lineup |

No but you can find top 4 UFA Dman for cheaper and less years. They did not have to give AMac that contract.
See Dan Boyle, Kyle Quincey, Willie Mitchell, Anton Stralman.
It can be done. |

I need to go to capgeek first next time.
There are two other guys at the same cap hit-Paul Martin & Alexander Edler. |

Bellemare. For some reason I don't see him on the score sheet from today's game |

Boyle is 38 and it would be another 35+ contract. And he's a similar player to Streit, not as good all around as MacDonald is, and is not the kind of player that the Flyers needed. And he is already having health issues.
Kyle Quincey is not as good as MacDonald is.
Willie Mitchell is 37, and another 35+ deal. And is a defensive stay at home defender similar to Grossmann. And that's not the kind of defenseman the Flyers needed.
Stralman is a good player, and an equal to MacDonald. Little bit cheaper. I would've been fine with him instead of MacDonald. But if the Flyers had waited until free agency, Stralman may not have wanted to play with the Flyers.

I just don't see replacing Umberger with Adam Hall fixing this team. The problem is that the Flyers need a second line center and a second line winger. They have plenty of fourth line players |

In all likelihood the team will just have to tough it out and hope for the best. Should we still be low in the standing approaching the deadline things could get very interesting. One of Coburn or AMac could be shopped for sure. |
