Boyle is 38 and it would be another 35+ contract. And he's a similar player to Streit, not as good all around as MacDonald is, and is not the kind of player that the Flyers needed. And he is already having health issues.
Kyle Quincey is not as good as MacDonald is.
Willie Mitchell is 37, and another 35+ deal. And is a defensive stay at home defender similar to Grossmann. And that's not the kind of defenseman the Flyers needed.
Stralman is a good player, and an equal to MacDonald. Little bit cheaper. I would've been fine with him instead of MacDonald. But if the Flyers had waited until free agency, Stralman may not have wanted to play with the Flyers. - MJL
There's a reason why the flyers have a good name with the players around the league. It's Bc of deals like amac's. |

Is there a "Worst deals in the league" list somewhere or do you have to go looking for them? |

I just don't see replacing Umberger with Adam Hall fixing this team. The problem is that the Flyers need a second line center and a second line winger. They have plenty of fourth line players - Dkos
It doesn't. There's a multitude of changes needed to fix things. It's going to take some time.
People are frustrated at seeing Umberger play like an AHL call up while he's carrying a $4.6mm cap hit. Hall was about $4mm cheaper, as good or better on the PK and brought the added bonus of being a very good face off man. |

Berube on Bellemare scratch: "He is not digging in there hard enough. When he gets back in, he needs to be more assertive.
In other words, do more gooder despite being paired with trash linemates and getting 6 minutes a night |

Did anyone else see in the 3rd period, down 4-2, and the 2nd line got Lundquist to freeze it, then berube changed lines, and before the drop, berube looked like he was yelling at Simmonds on the bench, and Simmonds shook his head and waived him off (basically F U coach)? I was at the game and saw it very clearly, but not sure if it was caught on TV. |

I understand that people are frustrated, but what can you do? It was a terrible trade. They didn't succeed in dumping much salary and the player isn't living up to expectations. Damage is done and there is no easy way out. |

They don't get any better looking when you DVR them either.
I left today when they were up 2-1. |

True, but a lot of folks think they have the talent to be a playoff team. I think they do as well, or at least be in the fight for a wildcard. That's why some are so vocal about the issues here.
If they are going to make a run, time's a wasting. |

I think people underestimated how much Timonen still did for this team. Umberger sucks and Hartnell was still a top 6 player, but losing Timonen was the real killer.
I suspected Coburn would take a step back without a serviceable partner and thats been the case thus far.
Timonen was the teams best defenseman last year and I think he was by a wide margin. He may have lost some ability, but he was a good player and reliable. |

Timonen was a tough blow. He did so much for them.
I still didn't anticipate being in the McDavid derby. But it seems that everyone on the D, who was here last season, took a step back. |

It's not frustration unless you don't do something about it.
For example, in recent days, various teams have waived veterans who can't help them anymore. You do that because it's better to cycle through players and improve even incrementally than continue to get your head bashed in with the same guys who you know can't play.
You're not looking to fix the team. You're trying to find players who can simply play better, adhere to the system, do the simple things correctly.
Umberger and Lecavalier have been so bad, they're not even playing fundamental, NHL-caliber, fourth-line hockey. They've been that bad. They don't win puck battles, they don't go to the net, they can't get in on the forecheck, you can't deploy them in the defensive zone -- they're useless out there.
Using the Adam Hall analogy, yes, he's a limited player. But at least you can use him in some tougher minutes, know he's going to win a draw or make the right read on the PK.
That's how bad the depth of the team has played all season -- they're not even doing enough to win an "ugly" game.
You can't fix everything, but that's never a reason to fix nothing. |

For a few players to regress wouldn't be surprising, but it looks like 90% of the team has gone senseless.
That suggests to me that it's systemic. |
