Except Giroux had already proven his worth prior to that extension.
Couturier has pretty much gone backwards since that Pens playoff series.
Im not saying he can't go forward again just you can't compare signing Giroux to expected growth of Couturier. - opeth_pa
That was just a little jab at Joe. Due to his current usage, and the state of the team in general, I'll give Couturier a little slack.

They're trying to do something that is impossible to do. One player can't be isolated from his teammates. It's team data, not individual data. And I love how the author of the article linked inside of the article made up his own player rating system using the same flawed Corsi data. Laughable.
I can post links to articles also.

Do you know what we have yet to see, in order to properly evaluate MacDonald as a player? We've yet to see the player placed in the right role, on a team that plays a solid overall team game, that supports the puck all over the ice, and plays strong team defense.
What do you think would happen with MacDonald's possession numbers if he was traded to the LA Kings, to replace Voynov? - MJL
To dip a toe into this debate, does the bold above mean we don't need a #1 defenseman on the blueline? In other words, if individuals don't have that great of an impact on the collective known as Team, why are so many saying we lack a true #1? |

I think his point is that individual players can't be isolated using data. They can only be evaluated by him and Flyer scouts. |

As will I unless we can package him for a #1 dman under 30, legit 30-40 goal scoring left winger under 30 or the number 1 or number 2 pick in this draft!
Sadly it would take substantially more then a regressing though young Couturier to get any of those. |

Don't worry though. When in a group of 5, it is impossible to determine individual attractiveness. |

For the right deal, sure he's available; anyone is. I just think saying that he won't ever get better is a bit extreme

Agreed, he has the possibility of getting better after all he is only 21 but a few more seasons like this and I think then we have to start believing we might have overvalued him. |

When you have four declining 4-6 men and young 2-3 guy, it's obvious.

He was good last year considering the usage rates he was forced into. He's gotten off to a bad start this season. His ES scoring rates were average among 2nd line centers last season.
I think it's important to not overreact to a slow start. Read and Couts have been good for 3 straight years. |
