So who gets benched for the next game? I'm guessing Vinny, Carlo and Schenn.
- PhillySportsGuy

My liver is really starting to hate me.

Should be benched: AMac, Umberger and Vinny

Will be benched: CC, L Schenn and VDV

He'll dress Vinny, he'll play all of 3 minutes but he'll dress him. No worries though, I'm sure the extra minutes will go to RJ

The day he scratches Vinny and Umberger will be watershed moments, because the Flyers have to break the fever of allowing bad players "to play through it"

Once he scratches those two, then the toxicity will be released and the Flyers can move on. Nothing will be right with this team, when you're preaching accountability, until you scratch one or both

Remember when the debate was about if the Flyers were better than the Isles?

Now it's going to end up being if they're better than a crippled Columbus team or the Hurricanes

Carlo should be in but he will probably get benched. I think you are right with your predictions. Vinny for sure and I wish Zombie would be added to that list.
Vinnyburger should just rent a car and drive the coast, then the two of them can meet up with team when road trip is over.

In the previous game, the same coach played MacDonald for 20+ minutes and was second only to Streit among all defenseman in ice time. So which situation should we use to determine the accurate view of the player? The one that suits our agenda?
- MJL

MacDonald played 20+ minutes in a game you guys LOST and he played 20+ minutes because the rest of your blueline sucks even more than him. That's not a good excuse to demonstrate he's good. The dude is a plug.

Demonstrating that you have little to no understanding of how contextual influences change over time with regards to on ice results.

Probably the same thing that happened to Robyn Regeher. His raw corsi would improve thanks to the better team, better linemates, but his performance relative to his teammates would either remain just as poor or drop even further.

And we could account for those factors and adjust our evaluation.

- AndrewD

How so? Explain why that is the case? How does contextual influences change over time with regards to on ice results, that eliminates the problem of false data?

So you're admitting that a players Corsi numbers will be greatly affected by who he plays with, and how good the team he plays on is. Proves my point. As far as the last point, that his performance relative to his teammates would either remain poor or drop even further. That's an unprovable assumption that is obviously coming from a biased point of view. And that bias is built from the very same premise of who MacDonald has played with, and how he has been used, have greatly affected the numbers that the very opinion you have of the player has been entirely based on. What we also might, and I emphasis might find, is that MacDonald might actually thrive playing on a solid team, with solid puck support and team defense, where he can be properly employed, and utilize the strengths and skill set that he has, for the first time in his career. But you've already eliminated that from the possible outcomes. Which demonstrates the understanding of Corsi that you have. Maybe when we get done discussing the badly flawed stat that Corsi is, we can move on to another badly flawed stat, relative corsi.

It almost doesn't matter which, because the Flyers will be better off. Wish he'd scratch both because they both deserve not to play -- I'd go seven defensemen before I played either of those two, and that's no hyperbole

Carolina's playing better than they are right now, and Buffalo is competing harder for pucks and on the boards -- maximizing the talent they have

I don't think MDZ has hit the net in about 2 weeks. Had a lot of chances but just fires it wide all the time

Buffalo's bad, but they have players who realize that the NHL isn't guaranteed for them, so they're giving it the best effort they've got

The Flyers have a couple of guys who haven't quite realized that the NHL isn't where they should be

If they don't already, Buffalo will have a better D than the Flyers once Risto and Zado get a bit more experience under their belts.

Maybe those guys you are referring to ( Vinny and Zombie) will realize that California really is a great place to retire while on this road trip.
If dreams come true they will inform Hextall of their retirement next Sunday.

I think it's an escalation, and a normal progression. Gives a veteran player plenty of opportunity to find his game. If it doesn't happen, moves the player around to see if that helps, limits ice time, then demotes to 4th line. Then scratches. I expect it to move in that direction if he doesn't show a pulse.
