I blame Holmgren for this disaster. Perhaps the Flyers for once should look outside the organization for help. The Flyers should have promoted Dean Lombardi to GM when Clarke left. Does anybody really believe that Holmgren is any more than a figurehead with the title of President. Sean Tilger really runs the Flyers.

Wow, MAB announced his retirement at 25 years young. Sad. |

Bill, I'm really starting to think that the loss of Hartnell and especially Timonen has really cut the heart out of this club. I'd be interested in your take on that. - BiggE

Would have been a great idea. Too bad Lombardi was GM of the Kings when Clarke left |

He could have tried akeson with more skilled line mates at least for a spell to see what he could do. Instead, he stuck him on the 4th line with plugs for 5 minutes a night while giving the rest of the vets 15 minutes who produced nothing. He got virtually no chance. Which is (frank)ing stupid. He may never make it anywhere but after having him this long in the organization why not see what you have? (frank)ing stupid.
The team sucks and the coaching sucks. - hammarby31

I don't think he would be helping much right now tbh. His level of play deminshed a good deal over the last year.
And there's the matter of MDZ never even signing here if Kimmo was healthy. Love Kimmo, but we're in better shape with MDZ.
But in regards to heart... I can't really speak to that. They have plenty of driven guys in that room. |

Too soon to beef up the draft scouting if they fail to come away with any signs of progress on this road trip? |

Yeah I agree 100%
I think the Finnish warrior was the conscience of this team. Other players saw the pain he played through and the way he approached the game and felt compelled to work harder. There is no one on the current roster that brings that veteran work ethic and classy style of leadership that Timonen brought night in and night out.
A team like Arizona might struggle for a while but they won't just fall apart because, IMO, they have a guy like Shane Doan in the room. The Flyers, especially if they are committed to building with youth via the draft, could really use a vet or 2 that can bring that type of leadership to the club. |

Kimmo would also bluntly tell his teammates when they sucked and needed to pull their heads out of their asses.
Even at age 38 last season, he was still their best and most reliable defenseman, as well. They definitely miss that. |

idk... i think if they can add a top six winger and one of the other guys gets going, giving them another line that can be a threat, with mason in net they can turn it around. oh yea and fire berube, promote murray. |

Yup guys like Timonen and Lappy are always found on good teams and usually missing on bad ones. |

The problem is that you have to give to get, and very few teams have the appetite for "deficit spending" anymore
Better to hoard assets for a future that may never come instead of a present where you might lose a deal |

It's not going to happen. At some point both Voracek and Giroux will have a slump or 2 and I just don't see anyone else stepping up. The fact that they are counting on a 20 year old kid who was in the AHL 2 weeks ago to be there #2 scoring option at center speaks volumes about this team. |

It's possible they can turn it around, but with each passing day, the odds seem longer and longer. I absolutely do not want a deal that just makes them better now. They need to keep their eyes on the long term, not next spring. |
